Messages from Coronado Middle School June 2020

Dear Triton Families,

We hope your children have had a relaxing first week of summer!

As a nation and community, we are processing and responding to recent incidents of discrimination, racism, violence, and death affecting black citizens and the consequent protests across our nation. As a white citizen, educator, and principal, I consider it my responsibility to continue to grow in my own awareness and cultural proficiency and responsiveness. It is our school's responsibility to invest in our reflection of our students' cultural backgrounds and experiences and in instruction that represents and encourages multiple perspectives and which challenges our students to think and act critically. As we plan for next year, we are here for you: to listen to your experiences, your concerns, your questions, your ideas, and your suggestions.

Please register ASAP for School Year 2020-21 unless you are SURE your child will not be returning. We want to count you in, and plan for an amazing year of learning!
Registration information is here:…/silver-strand-registratio…/

Online registration is required for all returning and new CUSD students. Parents of returning and new students need to complete online registration by June 15th. The attached flyer provides registration instructions and links to view and download required registration documents. New this Year - Parents are now able to upload required documents while registering online. Parents of returning students are strongly encouraged to upload documents and by doing so will no longer be required to attend a registration completion day in August. Parents of new students are also encouraged to upload required documents but will still be required to attend a registration complete day in August by appointment only.

Ms. Moore will continue to stay in touch with families throughout the summer via our website, intermittent family newsletters, and Facebook.

California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) has developed a survey to obtain information from students about learning during the pandemic. The questions have been adapted from the school climate survey in the CHKS core module to learn about students' mental health, stress, and coping skills during distance learning.

Student participation is voluntary. It is also very important. The information provided will help guide district and school efforts to promote safety, enhance learning supports, improve student achievement, and reduce health risks that stand as barriers to learning.

This is an anonymous survey. It is designed so that no one can be identified from the data. Students do not have to respond to any questions that they feel could be used to identify them. Instruct them to simply skip any such questions.

All questions apply to this school only, and the results are for the use of CUSD. CDE and WestEd will preserve data confidentiality and refer any data requests to the district.
