Highlight of the Week

We started our Global Read Aloud. The Global Read Aloud (GRA) project was created in 2010 with a simple goal in mind; one book to connect the world. From its humble beginnings, the GRA has grown to make a truly global connection with more than 1,000,000 students having participated. Most 1st Graders are participating in the Lauren Castillo author study. We are doing that and in addition reading The BFG by Roald Dahl. Today we connected with our first buddies on Lauren Castillo book Nana in the City and we guessed each others location with clues given by the students. Our buddies were from Virginia Beach!

App of the Week

Seesaw is a student-driven digital portfolio that empowers students to independently document what they are learning at school and share it with their teachers, parents, classmates, and even the world. We started using it this week with our GRA books!

Boo Bash

Boo Bash is Glenhope's annual carnival with games, ride, food, auction & more. It's a very popular event with our students and families and a fun way to spend a weekend afternoon. It's also the biggest PTA fundraiser of the year and a lot of fun on top of that!

Date: Saturday, October 22 from 2-6pm

Our Class Booth is: Robot Race (balance pumpkins on head). Don't forget to sign up for a shift on the SignUp Genius!

Report Cards

On Wednesday, October 19, your child's report card will be ready to view. These will be available in the same folder you accessed through your child's Google Drive when viewing the Progress Report.

As a reminder, the folder you will need to open to access them is called "Last Name, First Name 2016-17 Standards Based Report Card." The progress your child has made this year will be recorded on the report card document as well as on the ASPIRE Supplemental Report Card.

We will be observing Red Ribbon Week October 24-28. Each day has a different theme, and students are encouraged to dress accordingly. The schedule is as follows:
Monday, October 24: Our Future is Bright- Wear neon colors and sunglasses
Tuesday, October 25: Sock It to Drugs- Wear crazy socks
Wednesday, October 26: Don't Get Mixed Up with Drugs- Wear mismatched clothes
Thursday, October 27: Lights Out on Drugs- Wear pajama pants
Friday, October 28: Team Up Against Drugs- Wear your favorite team's jersey or shirt

We have several visiting authors coming to GHE in November! Aaron Reynolds will be presenting to our K-2nd graders. Pre-order forms for their books came home this week and will be due back mid-October. Books that were pre-ordered will be autographed by our visiting authors.
