Second Steps Social Skill Curriculum Week 12! Make sure you fit Second Steps into your week!
Kindergarten - We feel feelings in our bodies - You can use physical cues in your body to identify your feelings. All your feelings are neutral. It is important to talk to a grown up when you feel worried.
First Grade - Identifying our own feelings. You identify your own feelings by physical clues in your body. All feelings are natural.
Second Grade - Managing embarrassment - Using a stop signal and naming your feeling are the first two calming-down steps.
Third Grade - Managing test anxiety. Using a stop signal and naming your feeling are the first two calming-down steps.
Fourth Grade - Calming down anger. Calming down emotions that are getting out of control helps you think clearly so you can avoid negative consequences.
Fifth Grade - Managing frustration. Frustration can get in the way of learning. Managing frustration reduces the chance of doing something you may regret later.

Data Teams
We are a team! Our goal is to help all students at Pioneer Trail be successful from the time they enter Kindergarten until they leave for middle school. Let’s work together to not only make our school the greatest, but to make every student that walks in the door be successful!
According to our training this week, the definition of Data Teams is this….
Data Teams are learning teams that empower educators to improve teaching, learning, and leadership to increase learning for all students.
Data Teams are first and foremost about improving instruction. They are small grade-level teams that have a common learning goal that use priority standards, formative assessments and common scoring guides (rubrics). Teams collaborate and recognize that they must work together to achieve their collective purpose of learning for all students.
Before the first meeting, make sure to establish expectations for the data team leadership roles and ensure that a schedule is followed to avoid wasting time. Roles can be shared monthly, weekly, etc. or change quarterly, whichever works best for your team. Leadership roles include...Data Team Leader, Recorder, Timekeeper, and Focus Monitor.
After administering a pre-assessment, follow the 5-step process shown below.
Teaching should not be a “one-man show”. You should collaborate with others to help improve student learning beyond what you can accomplish alone. Ask your co-workers what is working for them. You may get some great ideas from colleagues that you would never think about on your own. Sometimes you get your best ideas from listening to others. So...talk to eachother, trust eachother, and work together to increase learning for all students.

Terri Miller
