The Importance of Memory

The Giver

Society And Humanity

One of the themes are "Society And Humanity." For example, she concentrates on the tradeoffs involved when Jonas' community chooses Sameness rather than Valuing individual expression. I think they choose Sameness rather than Valuing because I think they are trying to treat everyone the same. "We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of other." Its saying that they have a lot of stuff but at the same time they have to let it go. "Of course they wanted to care. It was the meaning of everything." This is saying that they were caring but they were not showing it.

The Giver teaches a valuable lesson about fairness and about caring.

Fairness And Caring

The book, The Giver, teaches lessons about fairness and caring. I think that Jonas learned how to be a leader and be more responsible. So, the book is basically about a boy named Jonas and he lives in a community where people get jobs according to your age and they give presents to the kids if they do their job really good. The kids do their jobs to get the gifts from the elders. The husband and wife are only aloud to have two kids, one girl and one boy. Jonas is Eleven and when each child turns Twelve, they get to have something special. Jonas got the job as a leader.
