Kutz Cougar Chronicles Nov/Dec 2014
Kutz . . . where kids care to learn and kids learn to care.
Bubblegum Day
Okay, so it may not have been my best idea! Who knew Bubblegum contained so many ingredients that could be possible allergens? Who knew that students would follow their Principal's rules over their Orthodontist's rules and get bubblegum stuck in their retainer? Who knew Bubblegum could bring on a headache? Who knew students would mind their manners at school with regard to the proper disposal of Bubblegum but think those same Manners Matters did not apply at home?
Thank you for still supporting me and not giving me too hard of a time. For the most part, the day actually went quite well and students felt that sense of having a forbidden indulgence in school...............kind of like running in the halls!
Just so you know, we probably won't repeat Bubblegum Day for many years to come - if ever!!! But what do you think of "Running in the Hall with Scissors Day?"
REGISTER EARLY - Spread the news!
Please tell friends, relatives and neighbors who have children who may be coming of school age or who are transferring from a private Kindergarten into First Grade to REGISTER EARLY! Early registration helps us with our staffing and planning for next year.
THE TIME TO REGISTER for next year IS NOW!!!!
THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VETERANS
On November 11th we feted over 100 people to a Breakfast that celebrated our Veterans. The Before School Program students sang Patriotic Songs and the Jumping Beans performed. The Veterans were so appreciative! We received many notes and sentiments of gratitude along with a letter to the Editor in our local newspaper. It was such a nice event! Thanks to the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends of our students, who have served or are serving! Dr. Kahley read one of her favorite poems – In Flanders Field which really hits home the concept of sacrifice for one’s country. Mr. Waldron spoke about a relative who he admired for serving in the military.
A great big thanks to the Faculty and Staff for supplementing the Breakfast with their own homemade goodies.
Halloween Candy Drive for Operation Gratitude
Our Students collected over 300 pounds of candy for Operation Gratitude. Dr. Lee of L & M Orthondontics, who is also a Kutz parent, donated $250.00 to the Kutz Activity Fund. His staff picked up the boxed candy which will be sent to our troops overseas.
The donation helped to fund our Veteran's Day Celebration!
Much thanks to the Lee Family and to all those who donated their candy! Dentists everywhere are smiling!
Snow Days and Delays
e.g. -
1 hour delay 9:35 AM
2 hour delay 10:35 AM
Unless your child is signed up for the Before School Program - he/she may not come to school earlier. Please help us keep all children safe. Do not drop off your children before the designated time!
Little Pitchers Have Big Ears!
Brrrr....
It’s almost winter folks and it’s starting to get cold. Some students come to school with no gloves, no scarves and sometimes, no jacket. Unless the temperature is dangerously low, ALL children are to go outside for recess. Even on very cold days we believe children benefit from five or ten minutes outside to get fresh air. Please make sure your child comes to school properly dressed to brave the elements.
A Big THANK YOU to our Home and School Parents!
A message from the Nurse's Office
There are steps you can take, in your daily life, to help protect you from getting the flu.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with your hands. Germs spread this way.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- Practice good health habits. Get plenty of sleep and exercise, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat healthy food.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- If you do not have a tissue, cough into your elbow or the fabric of your clothing.
- If you are sick with flu-like illness, stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone without the use of fever-reducing medicine.
Forget Your Homework?
For safety, security, and responsibility reasons, students and parents are not permitted back into the building after dismissal. If your child has forgotton part of their homework, please take the opportunity to encourage them to problem solve (call a neighbor, check the teacher website, do something similar as an effort to practice, do more of another subject - like Reading, etc).
These are opportunitites to help students problem solve for themselves. We appreciate your support in using these experiences and learning opportunities to help your children learn and grow.
