Family Update- December 22, 2023
We MADE IT! What a FUN week of holiday fun this has been. Between the holiday workshop, Polar Express Day, and our holiday parties this afternoon, we are sending VERY tired (& very excited) kiddos home to you all! Today also marked the end of our composting pilot during Friday lunches. The students did an awesome job being a GOOD GLOBAL CITIZEN during the month of December and learning about the different items they can compost versus throwing away in the trash. I've included some pictures below of their efforts!
You will notice that this is a very brief family update this week. I will send a comprehensive update before we return from winter break with January updates and details.
Finally, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday break. Rest. Reset. And come back REVIVED for a fabulous 2nd semester and 2024!
Cheers!
Renee

The McClure Pep Band members had the chance to practice their leadership skills and the 5th graders got a sneak peak at what it's like to be a bulldog! We ended the night with delicious pizza!

Poster Contest for all Illinois Student Artists
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) have collaborated to create more visibility for young Illinois artists and showcase their talent, as well as reinforce the importance of the arts in the growth and development of our students. The theme for the 2024 contest is: I wonder... The contest includes four entry levels: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. A panel of judges will select a winner and two runners-up in each entry level. All winners and runners-up will have their original work displayed by the ALPLM from March 11, 2024 to August 15, 2024. The winning students in each entry level will have their work featured on a poster to celebrate Illinois Arts Education Week. Submissions must be postmarked by January 5th, 2024. Please see the flyer linked below for details and look out for a flyer coming home in your student's folder. If students submit work, please have them take a photo of their work before they send it in, so that we can display it at the Spring Art Fair. CLICK HERE for more details!
Laidlaw Learning Fair - Tuesday, January 23rd
ALL interested Laidlaw students are invited to participate to tell others about something that interests you. It can be about anything: history, art, music, science, math, language, one of your hobbies, a model you built, your favorite author, or one of your collections. Be creative! The most important part is to have fun learning and putting your presentation together. Then plan to share your knowledge on the night of the fair! It’s okay to work with your parents, other family members, or to partner with friends. CLICK HERE for more information!
Variety Show - February 15th
(Rehearsal on February 7th...during the day because of early dismissal)
We can't wait to see all the amazing performances from our Laidlaw students at this year's variety show! DJ Maximus will be there to emcee the show and get the party started! This year every student in 2nd-5th grades will have two options to participate...either a two minute group act or a one and a half minute solo act. After winter break all the specific information on how to sign up will go out to the Laidlaw community. Contact Kelly Clifford at kellys1780@gmail.com for more info.
