A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL RICHARDSON
Hello O’Dell Parents,
At O’Dell we believe an engaged student is a happy student! Each month O’Dell will host a student engagement day. Themes will be pushed out at the beginning of each month giving staff & families time to plan around that month's theme.
For the month of September our engagement day will center around Dot Day on Thursday, September 15th. Dot Day is inspired by the story The Dot, by Peter Reynolds. (Link attached below for a quick listen.) The story gives a simple, but powerful message on courage, creativity, and much more.
After you know the story, then Dot Day will make sense. The classroom activities will be all about dots/circles. For dress up, your ideas can be as simple as putting dot stickers on your student - or going all out with a wild polka-dot outfit. We want the kids to look forward to something different and fun!

A MESSAGE FROM OFFICER BRANTLEY MILLER
Parents, unless it is Arrival/Dismissal time of day, please make it a habit of parking your vehicle in a designated parking space. We understand that you may just be dropping off a lunch, backpack, supplies, etc., but parking in a designated parking space is BEST practice for these instances. In the event of an emergency, the fire lane needs to be free and clear of any vehicles that may prevent them from accessing any of these areas. If your vehicle is parked in the fire lane and an emergency ensues, you risk the possibility of being blocked in until the situation has been resolved or potential damage caused to your vehicle if emergency response vehicles cannot access areas needed in response to the emergency. Our First Responders want to resolve any emergency situation as quickly and efficiently as possible, so we appreciate your help with this matter. Thank you!

The Counselor's Corner
This month we’re talking about the character trait of Respect. The definition we are using in class is:
Respect: seeing value in all people and things and treating them with care
Family Conversation Starters:
If Respect means making others see good in people and making people feel cared for, how do we already show Respect at home? How can we do a better job showing Respect as both kids and adults?
Who is someone that you have a hard time with? What would help you model Respect for that person? How might that change your relationship?
Family Challenge: Respect the Planet
Talk about how you can Respect our planet by keeping it clean. Visit a place in your community where your family enjoys spending time - it could be a park, the library, a playground, or even your neighborhood. Take gloves and a trash bag with you and look for litter to pick up. Talk about how picking up litter helps our environment.
