East Lincoln High School Chorus & Theatre Newsletter

October 2020

The Stage Notes Newsletter is published the first of every month and contains lots of information about both the Theatre Arts and Choral Music programs at East Lincoln High School. We want to try not only to get the word out about upcoming performances but also to keep our community up-to-date on what our students are doing and how they can partner with us to produce the highest quality programs.

If you have friends, family, or neighbors who would enjoy this monthly look into theatre and chorus, share with them our website, www.EastLincolnOnStage.org, and they can sign up to receive the newsletter at the bottom of any page.

Thanks for being a part of our performing arts community!

We Have Waited Over SEVEN Months, But Now IT IS TIME!

Our last performance memory was the closing of Hairspray on Sunday, March 8. The black box theater has been empty for far too long and we are beyond excited to open our doors on October 22 for eight performances of Little Shop of Horrors! With last week's announcement of Phase 3 restrictions in North Carolina, we have been able to finalize our planning for this production. Below are some important notes about what to expect when you come to the theater.

  • Each performance will be limited to 25 audience members.
  • Members of the same household may sit together if all tickets are purchased in one transaction. Each individual transaction will buffer seating to allow for appropriate social distancing.
  • All patrons must wear a face mask for the duration of their time inside the building.,
  • Social distancing must be maintained during pre-show, the performance, intermission, and post-show. The cast will also be wearing masks during the performance.
  • Upon entering the theater, guests will receive temperature screening and standard COVID-19 questioning that is a part of Lincoln County Schools' daily operations.
  • Audience members not practicing the designated safety protocol will be asked to leave and no refunds will be given.
  • We encourage all patrons to purchase tickets online to ensure seating at your desired performance, as well as to minimize the handling of money on-site.

The cast and crew of Little Shop are eager to share their work with you and hope that you will not only attend one of the performances but that you will encourage friends and family to do the same. With reduced capacity came the need for an increased number of performances, but with increased performances comes increased royalty fees. It is important that we fill as many of the 200 seats as possible! And hey, wouldn't it be AMAZING if we needed to schedule an encore performance or two so that everyone wanting to see the show could have the opportunity? You can help us make that happen!

Fall Choral Music Concert Cancelled

Big picture
The last eight weeks have been a very interesting time for our choral music students. Over half of the singers are working in a completely virtual environment, which brings many challenges to preparing music for ensemble singing. It is unfortunate that we were not able to adequately prepare for our performance on October 5, but we have started early on winter selections in hopes that the extra time will ensure we have something to share in December. Please keep the December 14 date on your calendar and we will look forward to again sharing music together.

2020-2021 SEASON!

We have planned for a full season in spite of all that is going on around us. It is important to us that we stay positive and continue to be hopeful as we prepare for the season. There may be more performances with fewer members in the audience. There may be performances streamed into your home. There may be performances outdoors. One thing is for certain. We are going to do our best to bring you some amazing art this year by whatever means we are able. Please connect with us on social media to make sure you are always up-to-date with our current productions and concerts.

In the fall of 2019, the East Lincoln High School Theatre received a grant from the Timken Foundation to begin the renovation of a classroom space into a black box performance space. This grant of $115,000, combined with smaller donations allowed us to install a pipe grid to house an up-to-date theatrical lighting system, update the sound system, blackout the windows, and acquire new seating platforms for our audience. Adding padded seating is the final piece of this initial renovation phase.

We are looking for 100 sponsors to purchase one seat, helping put the finishing touches on the space. Please help us get the word out! In reality, 100 sponsors is not a massive goal, but it is a goal that will greatly benefit our students and audiences for years to come!
