Board Brief
November 17, 2022
Recognition of People, Events, and Programs
Congratulations to Zone 4 Member and Board Secretary Angela Person-West on earning recognition from the Arkansas School Boards Association for the number of training hours! We salute you on this honor.
The Student Voice Team at Ridge Road Elementary School gave an overview of their school culture, why they enjoy their school, and answered questions from board members.
Ms. Caroline Faulkner, the Assistant Principal at NLRHS, received the Superintendent's Honor Roll Award. Dr. Saint Louis, NLRHS Principal, nominated Ms. Faulkner for going above and beyond to support students and staff at the school and for serving as an excellent leader.
Mr. Randy Box, the Parent Engagement Professional at Meadow Park Elementary School, earned the Parent North S.T.A.R award. Mr. Box has been instrumental in developing a wide range of activities to engage parents and families to get them involved in their student's education.
Mr. Rodney Campbell is this month's recipient of the Great Rising Charging U.P. Mentor Award. Mr. Campbell serves as a mentor in our district. He feels that mentoring our students is a divine call that he has answered.
ESSA School Index and School Report Card Data
Mrs. Yaa Appiah-McNulty, the Coordinator of Accountability, Assessment, and Data Management, led the presentation about the district's Every School Succeeds Act (ESSA) and School Report Card data. This data is largely based on results from the ACT Aspire exams that last year's third through tenth grade students took last spring.
While there is work to be done, there are some things to celebrate:
- Ten out of thirteen schools increased in their ESSA School Index
- Seven schools attained a value added growth over 80, indicating students, on average, are meeting and/or exceeding expected growth in achievement
Professional Learning Communities
Ms. Traci Lightfoot, the Executive Director of Elementary School Performance, and Mrs. Amy Jordan, the Executive Director of Secondary School Performance, led the presentation about Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). PLCs serve as a model in which teachers and administrators work together, with data and research, to achieve better results for the students they serve.
