## THE SITUATION

It's that time of year of giving and caring! Once again our top two wrapping stores, Wrap It Up and Pretty Present have opened up in Brampton! There is tough competition between the two shops working hard to attract customers. Each shop has set up a different deal as show below.

Deals

Wrap It Up: Wrap It Up this season has a fixed rate of \$4 than an additional \$2 per present.

Pretty Present: Pretty Present this season has a fixed rate of \$3 per present.

Now the question is which store is the most customer friendly, has better prices and is cheaper?

## VARIABLE CLASSIFICATION

Before we do the math we must know what all the variables represent!

WRAP IT UP

Y represents the total cost of all the gifts wrapped.

X represents the number of gifts wrapped.

2 represents the cost per present. It is also the slope of the line.

4 represents the fixed rate paid at the beginning before getting the presents wrapped.

PRETTY PRESENT

Y represents the total cost of all the gifts wrapped.

X represents the number of gifts wrapped.

3 represents the cost per present. It Is also the slope of the line.

## HOW TO DETERMINE WHICH STORE TO GO TO? WHAT ARE THE PRICES?

Now this all depends on how many presents we need to get wrapped! So lets do the math!

Wrap It Up

y = 2x + 4

Pretty Present

y = 3x

When trying to calculate the amount money spent just input your data!

The formula for Wrap It Up is a partial variation since it has a variable cost (\$2) and also a fixed cost of (\$4). Another reason is because, it starts doesn't start at the point of origin and has a y-intercept of 4.

The formula for Pretty Present is a direct variation since it has a variable cost (3) this is because when graphed the line starts from the origin and does not have a
y-intercept.

## CONCLUSION

WHICH DEAL IS BETTER?

As you can see the price all depends on how many presents you want wrapped.

By looking at the graph above we can easily conclude that when paying for the wrapping of 1 to 3 gifts Pretty Present is cheaper, but wrapping 4 presents costs the same from both holiday stores so you can choose whichever shop! If you wish to have more than 4 presents wrapped, then Wrap It Up would be the best option for you!
