PARCC Testing
I have to say that PARCC testing is going extremely smoothly. This week all grade 4 students completed the math portion of the test. Grade 3 will start next week. A huge thank you to Mrs. Pastore for her assistance on setting everything up for PARCC. Another thank you to the students for working so diligently. I plan to do something special for all the grade 3 and 4 students after PARCC testing. Lastly, thank you to the parents for getting your child in school on time and not making any appointments during the testing sessions. Next week will be more of a testing challenge since we will have 2 sessions each day (one in the AM and one in the PM). The schedule is below if you have not seen it, which is impossible, since I have sent so many emails and hard copies home. :-)
Box Tops March Madness
This is a contest between classes to see who can collect the most box tops. The class that collects the most box tops will win a class prize!!! Contest runs throughout March only. This is a great way to help raise money for your school. Please submit all box tops in a labeled envelope or plastic bag with student's name and teacher. Trimmed labels and in 50 count bags would really be appreciated. Box Tops offers three easy ways to earn cash for our school through everyday activities such as buying groceries, shopping on-line and purchasing books. 1. Clip the Box Top from hundreds of participating products and send them to school. Each one is worth 10¢ when our school redeems them from Box Tops for Education. 2. Shop at your favorite online stores through the Box Tops Marketplace® (boxtops4education.com/marketplace). Up to 15% of your qualifying purchase total is automatically donated to our school, at no additional cost to you. Plus, you’ll get exclusive Box Tops deals and discounts! 3. Buy books online through the Reading Room, a partnership between Box Tops and Barnes and Noble. Our school receives up to 6% of qualifying purchases. This is a free online registry to help classrooms get the learning tools they need. Our school earns a 2% cash donation with every qualifying purchase.
Pawcatuck River Duck Race
The 17th annual Pawcatuck River Duck Race will be held in April. More information about this contest will be coming home next week. On Monday, March 30, we will begin our Duck Fundraiser. Your child will bring home an envelope and flyer. Please ask families, friends, co-workers to sponsor a duck. This is our last fundraiser of the school year. Contact the office if you need more information. Thanks for your support and come join us at the race to cheer for your duck!
Family Fun Night at Launch Trampoline Park
Please see the flyer below. It also went home as a hard copy last week. If you plan on attending, please fill out a waiver form. The web address to do this online is https://launchtrampoline.pfestore.com/waiver.
Trimester and Report Card Extensions
Trimester end date and report card distribution will be delayed a week due to all the snow days we have encountered the last 2 months. See above for the new dates, which are bolded.
Important Information
Please be sure all emails and notes to the office are sent to Ann Champlin. This is critical in case Mrs. Mac is not in. Her email is Ann.Champlin@chariho.k12.ri.us.
School Store will be open for business on Tuesday, March 31 during lunch.
Spotlight Information
PARCC testing starts next week. Please take a moment to take a look at the schedule of testing sessions below. For examples of PARCC assessment problems, please visit http://parcc.pearson.com/practice-tests - Depending on what browser you use, the practice test items may not work properly. We use Mozilla Firefox, which works well. When you get to the site, you can click on the green English Language Arts Practice Tests or the Math Practice Test. Then click on the grade 3 or 4 link and go to computer based practice test. Students can practice these tests at home. All a child would have to do is type their first name and start the test.PARCC Schedule for Spring Testing

Principal Giuseppe Gencarelli
The Hope Valley School PTO is a very active organization. I encourage all parents to attend monthly meetings and to become involved in their child’s school. All school event dates and times can be found through a PTO link as well as on Events Calendar link on the district homepage. Parents are also encouraged to volunteer in the classroom or assist with field trips. All parent volunteers are required to complete a background check.
Our staff members work very hard to stay connected with all families through regular phone calls, email messages and personal meetings. Some teachers also maintain their own web pages to update families on current assignments and activities in the classroom.
Please consider signing up for my weekly email messages to learn about what is happening at Hope Valley School. To subscribe, please visit the district homepage, click on newsletters on the far right under latest information and then follow the directions to subscribe to the Hope Valley School parent list-serve.
Sincerely,
Giuseppe Gencarelli
