Monthly Focus: Social Awareness
Social awareness is taking the perspective and empathizing of others, including those of diverse backgrounds and cultures! When we empathize, appreciate diversity, respect others, and take the perspective of other then we are socially aware!
This month we will focus on how we can be kind to others and ourselves! The book titles above will be shared in class with your child. We will practice being kind to ourselves and appreciating others. At home you can model this by talking about how you or your child is feeling, give those feelings a name, and discuss how those feelings effect people.
Monthly Tip: Enough Sleep
Studies have shown that kids who regularly get an adequate amount of sleep have improved attention, behavior, learning, memory, and overall mental and physical health. Not getting enough sleep can lead to high blood pressure, obesity and even depression.
As we settle into the remainder of the Fall semester we are also falling into the familiarity of our school routine. Setting a bedtime routine should be part of this school routine. As soon as the sun goes down dim the lights, stop electronics 1 hour before bedtime, take a warm shower or bath, read a book, set a wake up time with the child. Placing a clock that is easily visible helps enforce this wake up time. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends 10-13 hours of sleep for 3-5 year olds and 9-12 hours of sleep for 6-12 year olds. {Source} {Picture Source}

Cooking together Encourages Family Conversation and Bonding!
Cooking together helps build closer relationships with your children. Turn off the TV and computer and don’t answer the phone while you make dinner. This dedicated time in the kitchen gives everyone in the family a chance to talk about their day, learn more about each other, and build pleasant family memories. {Source}
