Updates from the Winchendon Public Schools
From the Desk of the Superintendent
I hope everyone has had a wonderful first week back to school. Our grades 1-12 are officially a week into the new school year, and we are hearing wonderful things from our dedicated teachers and staff. Our Kindergarten students had an exciting first day this week, and we look forward to welcoming our PreK students next week.
We have had some bumps in the transportation department that we are dutifully working to correct, and I'd like to thank all of our Winchendon families for their patience this week.
The next month will bring the arrival of some much anticipated fall weather, as well as our open houses at each building. We would like to welcome all our Winchendon families to these events, which are detailed below, meet your child's teachers and have a closer look at what our schools are doing to enhance the learning of our Winchendon students.
One of the most important aspects of my job as Superintendent is to be in the schools on a regular basis, connecting with teachers and students. As we begin this year, I look forward to engaging with you, our Winchendon families, and working together to continue to see growth in our schools.
Thad King, Superintendent

School Council Interest
The Memorial School Council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the Principal, parents, teachers, and community members. School Councils expand the participation of the school community in its schools' decision making. The involvement of different groups on the council -- teachers, parents, and non-parent community members -- provides the school with different and mutually complementary perspectives on its improvement goals, policies and plans. All interested parents should submit their name to the Principal prior to the Open House. A vote will be held the evening of Open House and candidates receiving the most votes will be elected to serve on the council.
The purpose of the school council is to meet regularly with the principal, assist in the identification of the educational needs of the students attending the school, assist in the review of the annual school budget, and in the formulation of a school improvement plan.
