Friedell Middle School
September 14 - 18
The Week Ahead!
We start next week with our first 'full' week of school. One thing to note about the 5 day week, is that we will have classes meeting each day, and students need to be connecting with their teachers daily.
Next week we will also be trying something at school as a part of some classes. Typically we take the FAST Screener (if you are coming from another school it is similar to the NWEA) at school. This screener is web based, so we are going to try to do this in our DL (Distance Learning) format. We hope students will take this opportunity to show what they know. This is truly something that can help our staff know the needs of students academically, and support us in providing the best instruction possible.
One special note is that we have a PTSA meeting on Monday evening! There is additional information below, but we hope you will consider joining us!
Have a wonderful week!

In case you missed information on how to read the schedule on Skyward vs. the Calendar on the District Website and our 4 day rotation, please watch this, or share this, video!
Students have access to a form in their grade level Google Classroom that they can update with their schedule for the week. We are including another version of that form here, but please know students may need to use their isd535.org account to open the document!
Monday, Sep. 14th, 6-7:15pm
This is an online event.
Mr. Lundak will send everyone interested a link around 5:45 p.m. on Monday to their indicated email. This link will take you to the Zoom meeting for PTSA.
What if my student's iPad or electronic device does not always work?
We are seeing some tech issues with our iPads. Most often the issue with the iPad is that is has not been updated to the newest OS (Operating System). This can be done by anyone using the iPad. Simply go to settings - General (gear on the left) - Software Update (the newest to update to is 13.6) - Download and Install.
This install does take about 20 minutes with fast internet speed, so you may want to plan when your student does the update. Also, to update, the device needs to be connected to Wi-Fi, and have at least 50% battery charge (or be plugged in!).
If this does not help the iPad, please contact the Friedell Office. We are glad to help over the phone or set up an appointment. We can either have you stop by school, or we can come to your house and troubleshoot there!
We have recently added a number of Parent Tutorials about Google to our district supports. If you would like to check some of those out, please follow this link!

Students, and Families that are interested can also contact their Advisory teacher to get the Google Classroom codes!
We hope that you can consider taking advantage of this evening opportunity!
Notes from our Health Office
We encourage you to refer to the district’s Coronavirus Information Page at https://www.rochesterschools.org/Fall2020 for up to date information as well as essential resources. If you or your student will be coming on campus for any reason, we are asking everyone to complete an at home screener to keep everyone safe and healthy. For your reference, here is the at home screener: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GgyPlajlg5LxrkSJSd1clzv40rs1vuLI/view
If you are calling in your child due to illness, we do ask you note any and all symptoms your child is experiencing. This is important information as we continue to work with public health to keep our community safe and healthy.
More than ever before, it is important everyone 6 months of age or older receive an flu vaccination. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a rough flu season could cause serious issues for our community, further reducing school attendance and stretching our health care resources. As a reminder, there will be no flu vaccination clinics for the 2020-21 school year. Please call your provider or public health to discuss. Of note, there are also many pharmacies offering flu vaccinations in the community.
Weekly School Information
The letter and number days for next week are below! If you would like to see a more comprehensive school calendar, you may do so on the district website or with this link! There are a few calendars, but you most likely want to look at the Middle School Block Schedule Calendar.
Absences during Distance Learning (DL)
Please remember that you need to excuse students through the office if they are going to miss any part of a class. You can call 328-5660 (Attendance Line) or 328-5650 (Main Office Line) to do this. One reminder that this must be done for students participating in High School athletics as well. Even if the student is only missing the last part of a period, we do need to know in the office. Emailing the teacher, or having the student tell the teacher is not enough to have that be excused. Please call the office.
