News from Lakeridge Middle School

Stay safe, stay connected.

Thanks everyone for allowing us to prioritize the safety and well being of members of our community with the unexpected wildfire and smoke closures this past week. We know this has been an added stress and disruption during an already unusual start to school and appreciate how everyone has worked to be patient, flexible, and caring through it all. We are fortunate to have a community that takes care of one another and we'll continue to do that as we all settle into our distance learning routines in the weeks ahead. Below you'll find helpful news and resources. Thinking of you all.

Stay safe and stay connected,

Dr. Schultz

Book Pickup

Ms. Reid has been hard at work in our "library" at Palisades since school began. From helping organize our school-wide checkout to following up with individual problem-solving, she's moved mountains of materials from the old library to temporary facilities at Palisades and to storage facilities while we await the opening of our new building. We're so thankful for her good work helping us get materials in the hands of our students.

That work continues next week when she and our office team will offer additional pickup days Thursday (9/24) or Friday (9/25) between 10am-2pm at our Palisades location. If you cannot attend this pick up window and need any of the hard copy materials listed below, please call the office to coordinate a make up time (503-534-2343).

  • 6th - 8th Grade Social studies textbooks
  • 7th Grade Language Arts novels, The Outsiders
  • The Grade Body Shop Health Curriculum for grades 6-8
  • 6th Grade Spanish Immersion materials

Please remember that while we await our new school building (opening later this fall), many of our physical library materials have been boxed and stored. At this time we are prioritizing only those essential hard-copy materials students need and appreciate everyone's flexibility in accessing available online versions of textbooks and other materials.

Parenting Students' Social Media Use

If you've been an LMS Parent for very long, you know we often share resources on what we call "Digital Parenting." We'll be doing at again this year.

This week, we're thinking about social media and the ways in which it can be both a source of meaningful connection for kids in a time of social distance and a source of pain for everyone when it is misused. Parents are an important partner with us in helping kids make intentional, kind, and thoughtful choices about their social media engagement.

Here are some resources to help you think about conversations you can be having with your child around this issue.

School wide Instruction- Behavior Expectations

Next week all students will watch and discuss a presentation about our school wide behavior expectations during one of their classes. We are sharing that presentation with parents this week so you can be in the know about what we're asking of our learning community. Thanks for supporting and reinforcing these messages at home.

Office Hours

The LMS Office at Palisades will remain closed due to air quality issues until at least Friday 9.18.20 . In the meantime, please leave us a voicemail or email us for support. We're here for you even when we're not able to be in the office in person.

Our office at Palisades is typically staffed every weekday from 9AM-4PM. If you need to arrange pickup of unclaimed student materials, answers to a question, help connecting with the right resource or any other assistance you are welcome to call us at 503-534-2343.

Back to School Night- RESCHEDULED

Student Clubs & Activities

Student Clubs General Information

It is time again for our after school clubs to start. We hope to have several fun options for students to choose from. Research shows that kids who are involved and connected to school activities outside of class do better in class. In the past, our clubs have included Robotics, Arts & Crafts, Dungeons & Dragons, Queer Straight Alliance, Anime, Card Game Club, Jr. Thespians and more! If there isn't a club that matches a student's interest, they can start one by filling out our Club Application. Watch this space in the next few weeks as our returning clubs start up and as we add new ones. Encourage your child to choose a way to connect that's right for them!
