Raureka School Term 1 Week 9
Newsletter 30 March 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou katoa, Talofa lava, Kia orana,
We have reached Week 9 of this very difficult and different term. Thank you to everyone who have been working with us to keep everybody safe. We still have a number of children who are testing positive and need to isolate at home. Hopefully everything will start to ease up so we can start to get back to normality.
Covid19 -Changes as from March 25th have been
Red —
- There is no change to masks in education settings from the existing Red setting. Medical-grade masks remain a requirement for staff working indoors with children and young people in Years 4-13.
- For all New Zealanders, including school settings, masks will not be required outdoors.
- Capacity limits will be removed for outdoor events and activities.
- Indoor capacity limits for extra-curricular activities increase to 200 people, or a maximum capacity based on the maximum number of people who could occupy the space if each person was one metre apart (whichever is lower).
- Orange
- There is no change to masks in education settings from the existing Orange setting. Masks are strongly encouraged to be worn when indoors and are required for children aged 12 and over on school transport.
- As at Red, there will be no mask requirements when outdoors.
- There will be no outdoor capacity limits.
- Indoor capacity limits are also removed. However, for non-curriculum related events and activities you are strongly encouraged to use allocated seating for large events (such as those with more than 500 people) or apply a maximum capacity limit based on the maximum number of people who could occupy the space if each person was one metre apart.
- There will be no face mask requirements and no capacity or gathering limits in any setting, indoors or outdoors.
New Zealand remains at Red. However, Cabinet will review the framework colour level on Monday 4 April, I will let you know of any changes then.
Over the last few weeks I have been sending notices home to families via the Seesaw app letting them know if there have been any cases of Covid-19 in the class. As all classes have now been affected, I will not be sending out notifications to the class daily. I may do this once a week instead if needed.
Remember if your child is feeling sick please keep them home until they are well.
If your child does need to isolate either as being a household contact or for testing positive please let us know.
Symptoms of COVID-19:
- A new or worsening cough

We know how hard the impacts on COVID-19 have been for many families in New Zealand. If you have any concerns, please do get in touch. We are here to help.

Medical Reminders
IMPORTANT: Children are NOT to carry any form of medication in their bags etc. All medication must be held in the office. Parents must complete a Medical Form to enable staff to administer medication.
We often have a few ‘bugs’ around the school.
· A common one is a nasty cough/flu type illness. Keep your children home if they have symptoms of this as it spreads easily.
· If your child has had vomiting or diarrhoea, they MUST stay home for 2 days after the last event. This illness definitely spreads quickly around the school.
· Headlice are always around so make sure that you check your child’s hair regularly (we suggest weekly) and treat the hair if necessary. We have treatments available from school for free. Just pop in and we can give you some.
· If your child is at all unwell, please keep them home so that they don’t pass bugs on to other children. Also if a child is feeling unwell they are not able to learn easily and are much better off at home snuggled up in bed.
Don’t forget to contact the school office to let us know when your child is unwell please.
Volunteers needed for supervision of our school patrollers.
The children are well trained, it is just a matter of having an adult supervise from 8.30-9.00. Please contact Chris in the school office if your are able to help (even if you have helped in the past, please confirm).
