Jackson High School Athletics
Week of August 3
Hello Parents and Athletes
As you prepare for the 2020-2021 athletic season to begin we all know that the sports scene is going to be much different. Between the Ohio Department of Health, OHSAA, and local health officials giving us guidelines and mandates in how we conduct our athletic practices, games, and other events. We all know it’s going to be much different. Our coaches and athletes have been following all guidelines to the best of their ability through the preseason workouts.
We will need each of you to help out as much as possible. It will be helpful that each athlete attempts to keep their conduct with outside groups as limited as possible. We need each athlete to be screened at home for temperature checks along with other health concerns. If an athlete is not feeling well or has a temperature above 100.4 he or she needs to stay at home. Wearing face coverings when out in public, on the way into practice, out of practice, will help protect them.
We are waiting to hear from the governor and OHSAA on further guidelines that we will need to follow. Parent and fan attendance at all events will be limited and in some cases may not be allowed at all. We already know some golf courses will not allow spectators. For some home events we may be limited to 2-4 tickets per athlete. I know this will create a disappointment to all involved. We have no control on these mandates other than to follow them.
I’ve attached a PDF powerpoint of various JHS Athletic guidelines followed by some OHSAA rules and regulations. Please take a look at this with your student-athlete. We also have attached Coach Budd's 2020 football rules and regulations.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the various athletic events. I know the athletes have been working hard and putting in a lot of effort. I wish you all the best.
As always: Go Bears!
Dan Michel
JHS Athletic Director
It's always great to end on an inspiring note. Take a few minutes and watch this video of 1990 JHS grad, Lt. Col. Howard Marrotto. Lt. Col Marrotto was a former Mr. Jackson, class president, football player and many other things while a student here at JHS.
