The italicized questions drive what we are learning. We will focus on these questions throughout the entire unit. The statements below are the student learning goals for the week.
Reading-
- How do readers use strategies to understand characters?
- Why is it important to understand how authors communicate their ideas through characters in a story?
- How does a reader’s understanding about the author’s use of various literary techniques and formats enhance the reader’s thinking?
- I can use details from the text to compare and contrast two or more characters, settings or events.
- I can summarize the text.
- I can develop and refine ideas and inferences about characters.
Writing-
- How do writers use various techniques to enhance their narrative writing?
- How do narratives unfold in a way that makes sense to the reader?
- With guidance, I can use the writing process to produce high quality writing pieces-- This week we will be focusing on editing our pieces. They are almost done!!
Math-
- How does a digit’s position affect its value?
- In what ways can operations affect numbers?
- How can different strategies be helpful when solving problems?
- I can use and explain the order of operations to solve a problem.

Our classroom expectation is that students read for 20 minutes nightly! This is considered nightly homework!
