Hoodies
We have had an issue with hoodies. Per our dress code, it states, "Outerwear: Outerwear is defined as anything worn over the standardized dress, such as, but not limited to: hoodies, jackets, and coats. Students shall not be allowed to wear any type of hood/hoodie inside the school building. Nothing offensive on outerwear is allowed, such as images, sayings, artwork, music groups, etc."
Smart Watches
In our day and age, smart phones and smart watches are in and are often a necessity. We want to assure you that all classrooms are equipped with phones; therefore, students should not have their phones or smart watches on during the school day. Per our Electronic Resources Policy, " Students may not have electronic devices in their possession during the School day or at School-sponsored activities unless approved by the Director."
Junior High T-Shirts
Per our dress code, it states, "Shirts must have a collar. No logos or screen prints on shirt will be permitted. Shirts must be solid print. Shirts must also be free from holes and tears. Shirts may not be sleeveless."
MMA's Fun Run
Thank you so much for your outpouring support for our school with the Fun Run. We understand it came about last minute, but it was incredibly successful and students had a blast. If all pledges are collected, we are looking at profiting around $12,000!
A big shout out to our wonderful Boosterthon staff, Rockstar Rainy, Gnarly Charly, Hotshot Hannah, and Cam Jam for their excitement and encouragement through this process. The Boosterthon staff worked closely with our staff to ensure they were bringing the right level of excitement that matched the Montessori philosophy. Gnarly Charly was so impressed with our expectation of indoor shoes that he even purchased a pair for himself to respect the environment.
Early Childhood and Elementary Conferences
Our Early Childhood and Elementary Parent Teacher Conferences will be held February 13th-15th, 2019 between 1:30pm-7:00pm. Please click on the button below to sign-up for your student's class. The format of these conferences is different than in the fall. This time, the conference will be led by our students using their portfolios. All students should attend our Early Childhood and Elementary conferences.
During February Parent Teacher Conferences instead of providing a progress report with all of the learning standards listed for the school year, teachers at each level have chosen several power standards on which to highlight through student portfolios. We believe that portfolios are a way to show the progress of the whole child in their learning journey.
Please know that your child may not display total mastery of the standards highlighted in their portfolios and this is ok. February conferences are meant to serve as a snapshot of the student's progress. It is most important for families to see their child's progress, reflection, and engagement in their own learning process. Mastery of the standards should be expected at the end of year conference.
Junior High Conferences
Our Junior High will be conducting PTCs a little differently this time. We will have an open house format for JH families, as suggested by the JH team. Parents will not have to make official appointments to meet with teachers. All teachers will have individual table space in an open area (probably the gym; but, final location TBD). Parents can roam the area and meet with teachers who are not already engaged in conversation with a parent.
The intent and reason for this change is to accommodate families who want to visit with more than one JH teacher in one night - which can be difficult to set up appointment times near each other when students have 5-7 teachers in a day. Junior High conferences will be held February 13th-15th, 2019 from 1:30pm-7:00pm.
Parent Education Night: Executive Function
Right Brain! Left Brain! Hey What about the Front Brain?? Executive Functioning in the 21st Century
Children of all ages, especially children with ADHD, Autism or Learning Disabilities, often struggle with academic performance. Organizing school work, keeping track of assignments and just keeping up with the daily grind of school work can be very challenging and daunting. This discussion will help parents better understand what Executive Functioning is, how it may impact their child in school and learn ways to address these issues. This session will help parents with any child learn effective strategies they can implement to help their child succeed in school.
4th grade and up are welcome to come and learn with their parents.
