Student Spotlight: Martin Gomez
This year, Martin has excelled in school by pushing himself to work harder so that he can graduate and go to college. He wants to go to CSI and study to become a physical therapist assistant and then transfer to BSU and study athletic training. His biggest accomplishment at Rimrock is keeping his grades up so he is able to play sports. He is involved in may school activities such as Football, FHLA, and Basketball. When I asked him what his favorite subject was, he replied, "being a teacher's aide."
Keep up the good work, Martin, and thank you for being a student leader!

Camouflage Jerseys Bring Pride and Spirit to Last Home Game
"We are a part of the community, and I want the students to know that, though they are remotely located, they are still very much valued," Sgt Hanna stated as he looked on at the boys leaving the field for the last time this season. He looks at the jerseys as a way of giving back. Sgt Hanna can often be seen on our campus, encouraging our students to continue their education through college and military careers. He looks at himself as, not only a recruiter, but a mentor.
Hanna also teaches a military science class in Mountain Home and encourages anyone interested in the Army National Guard to contact him at: 208.258.4925 or visit their Mountain Home location at: 3845 Hot Creek Rd, Mountain Home, ID 83647.

Vicky Ayala stated that the best part of the summit was, "talking to colleges and meeting new people." Brothers Melvin and Klever Varela each stated that getting to know others and being motivated to do well in school was their favorite part. Junior Erick Flores would recommend the summit to his fellow students stating that, "It is fun and there are a lot of opportunities." Freshman Luis Araujo believes that he learned how to open up to others at the summit.

Senior Conducts Band
When I stopped Ray in the hallway to get his thoughts on being a musician at Rimrock, he responded with a sincere look on his face, "Band and music have meant everything to me. Being asked to conduct was shocking and caught me off guard, but it was fun."
Way to go, Raider! We are proud!

Administrators Host BBQ for ISAT High Performers
I had the opportunity to interview Adam Meyers, Yadira Hernandez and Ronaldo Gomez, all 6th Graders and new to our campus, about the experience. "I think it was great and they should definitely do it again next year!" exclaimed Yadira with wide eyes. Ronaldo mentioned that he appreciated being able to hang out with other students. Along those same lines, Adam stated, "It was neat to see all of the positive influences from kids in other classes."
Way to go, Raiders!

Soccer is the King of Sports
Translation provided by Mrs. Burk:
Soccer is the most practiced and most watched sport in the world. We know that this sport is becoming more popular in the United States and, there is talk of bringing MLS to Idaho. I would like to see a soccer team here at Rimrock. It would be good because there are many people who would like it to be here and, in addition, it is a non-violent recreational sport that has many values. There are many young people in this school that would like to have this sport, so I don't know why we don't have it here. Would you like to have soccer at Rimrock?

The answer was that it just feels like having a sibling. A $500 Date in Owyhee County
There are many ways you can spend $500 on a date in Owyhee County. how I would spend it first is with an awesome pick up and take a long drive to a nice place in Owyhee County called the Flatiron Steakhouse. It's very fancy for Owyhee County. Then when the sun starts to go down, I will take her to the highest peak in Owyhee County and have her watch the sunset, but I will leave the pick up on so that I waste gas. Then, I will take her to a dance that I set up and hire a band which will cost about $150. They will play country music...old country music. I will have this party all up in the mountains. I would take her shooting with a box of $66 shells. That's why Owyhee County is a really amazing place to go for a $500 date.
Study Tips
With the first quarter recently coming to an end, semester one finals are nearing. Start studying now! Below are some study tips that will make studying easier. If you know a test is coming up, study sections of information over a period of time instead of all of it at once the night before the test. Set goals for yourself, and when you reach those goals, reward yourself. Use flashcards or another studying method to study all of the information that will be covered. Make sure you understand what you are studying rather than trying to memorize it. Make sure you study in a comfortable place without your cellphone or social media. Study before you go to sleep. Before the test is handed out, write down all relevant information on a piece of paper or index card. Make sure you put the card away before you take your test if notes are not allowed. Get to studying now before it’s too late!
Strange Hobbies
By: Hailee Meyers
There are plenty of hobbies in the world; but what about unusual hobbies? Hobbies can be doing things, collecting things, learning things, and making things. Some unusual hobbies include Extreme Ironing (also known as ‘EI’). In this sport you iron clothing while rock climbing, kayaking, surfing, etc. Another example of a strange hobby is a taphophile. A taphophile is a person who enjoys going to cemeteries and photographing headstones. One more example of a strange hobby is planking; planking is the act of laying as still as a plank so other people think you’re dead. This hobby can take place anywhere in a public place.
As you can conclude, our world is not a boring place. There are many very strange hobbies to keep you entertained. I spoke to Timothy Jewett, a junior at Rimrock, and one of his many strange hobbies is punching himself in the face to see if the other side of his face jiggles. I also interviewed Paden Winings, a freshman, and a strange hobby she does when she’s bored is cleaning.
Unusual Jobs
During my research on some unusual jobs, I found a lot that actually pay very well for the job that people do. For instance, there's a job where people babysit ostriches and make $20 an hour, which is pretty cool for someone that just babysits an ostrich. There was also a job that's called a snake milker where a person gets drops of venom from the snakes fangs so that they can make the antivenom that people need for snake bites. There are tons of unusual jobs out there that are really weird because of the names they gave the unusual jobs. If I had to choose one of these jobs it would probably be an ostrich babysitter because of how much they make per hour.
Unusual Pets
There are many unusual pets in this world, but I only chose a few weird pets. So for a first pet I chose to talk about was the capybara. The capybara is mammal native to South America; it is the largest living rodent in the world. Also chiguire and carpincho it is a member of the genus hydrochoerus of which the only other existent member is lesser capybara.
Another unusual pet is kinkajou; it is a rainforest mammal of the family procyonidae related to olingos, coatis, raccoons and the ringtail and cacomistle. It is the only member of the genus Potos and is also known as the “honey bear”. Kinkajou may be mistaken for ferrets or monkeys, but are not closely related to them. Its head and body grow to 17 to 20 inches and its tail grows 16 to 22 inches. The kinkajou also has a prehensile (gripping) tail that it uses much like another arm.
Another unusual pet is a giant otte; it grows up to six feet. This South American otter is the world's largest otter. It lives only in the rivers and creeks of Amazon, Orinoco and La Plata river system. These huge members of the weasel family swim by propelling themselves with their powerful tails and flexing their long bodies. They also have webbed feet , water-repellent fur to keep them dry and warm and nostrils and ears that close in the water.
The sugar glider is another unusual pet that sometimes looks like a squirrel but is not a rodent. Sugar gliders are in the marsupial family, like kangaroos. They are called sugar gliders because they have a fold of skin stretching from their wrist to their slides which enables them to glide from place to place when their arms are outstretched. Gliders are nocturnal in the wild and very social animals, living in groups of 6-10 in New Guinea and Australia.
Finally the fennec fox is one of the most unusual pets of all with its huge ear on its little body. It head and body grow to about 9.5 to 16 inches and its tail grows to 7 to 12.2 inches. Fennec foxes dwell in the sandy Sahara and elsewhere in North Africa. Their nocturnal habits help them deal with the searing heat of the desert environment, and some physical adaptation help as well. Their distinctive, batlike ears radiate body heat and keep the foxes cool.
Creative Writing
The sun glares through the crystal announcing the various colors of joy. They reflect off the clear blue waves, through the endless world. Making me wonder who else is going to enjoy this amazing memory. I leave the crystal on the peanut colored sand, so I am not the only one to experience such wonder. I walk away with a smile on my face, and leave the crashing waves behind.
