Salaamu Alaykum!
We have started our new Unit of Inquiry, "Where We Are in Place & Time", and this Term in Art, we have our own specific Central Idea and Lines of Inquiry. This is an exciting change for our students! We have made some interesting explorations and discoveries through our creative work in the last two weeks which you can view below, and details about this Unit of Inquiry are also listed below. Just a reminder that you can also look ahead at the tasks and lessons the students will be experiencing by checking the Art Managebac calendar. Enjoy our progress and as always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any comments or concerns!
Thank you!
Wa Salaamu Alaykum,
Ms. Janjua
WHERE WE ARE IN PLACE & TIME | "CREATIVE CONNECTIONS"
Central Idea:
Through exploring art, people can make connections to different places and cultures.
Lines of Inquiry:
- Art changes over time.
- Art from different cultures can be connected through similar elements.
- Art has different purposes in different cultures.
Key concepts:
- FORM: What is it like? Arts are a form of communication that allows us to convey ideas, feelings and concepts to an audience through visual art, music, words, movements and expressions.
- CHANGE: How is it changing? Arts are never static. As the world changes, the methods and means of arts must evolve with it. Experiences in arts will alter according to the interpretations of the participant or the audience.
PIET MONDRIAN STUDY
Students were introduced to geometric art from different cultures, and began their study of our first type of art made by French Artist Piet Mondrian. We identified elements of shapes, lines and colors, and tried to recreate our own Mondrian-inspired works of art!
Syed Haider Raza Study
Next, we studied the work of Indian Artist S.H. Raza and discovered all the shapes he uses in his paintings, as well as the beautiful colors. We first tried to create a drawing out of oil pastel similar to the style of S.H. Raza, and then we combined all that we had learned about both artists - Piet Mondrian & S.H. Raza to create our own unique compositions!
