Success Advocates
Growth Mindset - September 2017
Success Advocate Program
To start our Sucess Advocate program this year, I want to make some things clear.
- This program is required by the state, but it is also supported by research - if you need to see the research, come see me!
- The program goal is to build relationships with our students.
- I give you a topic only to help give some direction to the meetings. Do not feel like you have to stick to the script or that if the conversation goes in a different direction that you have done something wrong.
- If you are building relationships with our students - then you are doing this RIGHT! :-)
Growth Mindset
Definitions:
Growth Mindset - The belief that intelligence is malleable, that it can change with hard work, perseverance, and challenge.
Fixed Mindset - The belief that intelligence cannot be changed. No matter what a person does, they are as smart or as good at something as they are ever going to be.
As educators we should have a Growth Mindset for ourselves and our students.
When meeting with your students during this first meeting. Briefly go over the definition. Then watch the assigned video for your grade level.
Facilitate a discussion after the video.
Where did they see Growth Mindset or Fixed Mindset?
How can they apply this to their learning?
How can they apply this to other activities?
