Sandia Vista Elementary

Principal Monthly Newsletter - May

Note from Mr. DeSoto

Hello Sandia Vista Families,

Just a friendly reminder if you have not registered your student for School Year 2023/2024 please take a few moments and kindly register your student.

  • If you have a new student you will need to register under new student.
  • If you have a returning student please enroll under returning student.

If you are currently out of district and returning please fill out an out of district transfer form on our SVE website.

Pre-Registration is very important. This gives us a better understanding of the students who are returning and who are also new to our school (especially kindergarten). We utilize these numbers to allocate for teaching positions, request supplies that need to be ordered and many other things that drive our daily functions within the school building.

Mrs. Watson and I are currently in the process of evaluating teacher positions for next year and if a teacher will need to shift to different grade level. Having up-to-date and accurate reflections of our student population helps tremendously with this process.

If you have any questions related to the registration process we are always here to help. Please contact our office at any time.

Mark your calendars!

Several key dates are also listed on the school calendar so please take time to check them out.

Please consider volunteering...

If you have time in your schedule or would like to share your talents with the students and staff of Sandia Vista we welcome your support. To begin the process of being cleared to volunteer please click on the link below.

Happy Spring,

Mr. DeSoto, Principal

Instructional Corner

Traditional

Wow! We have learned so much this year. We have heard from students, teachers, and parents how wonderful the learning has been this year. Students love learning about all the new topics and are solidifying their math facts. It is crucial to continue their learning over the summer. Some suggestions would be 30 minutes of reading and 20 minutes of math facts daily. We could do math with chalk, paint, or markers but be creative and fun!

This last month, we are still learning so much, please continue this learning over the summer. Kinder is learning about taking care of the earth and numbers 10-20 and counting to 100. First grade is learning about a new nation and American Independence and place value and addition and subtraction of numbers to 100. Second grade is learning about immigration and fighting for a cause as well as the foundations of multiplication and division. Third grade is learning about early explorations of North America and fractions and collecting data. Fourth grade is learning about treasure island and angle measurement and plane figures. Fifth grade is learning about Native Americans and problem-solving with the coordinate plane.

Counselor's Corner

Raising Kids Summit is free for parents and educators! Here is the link to register. It is online and free May 10th-12th and features 20 global experts discussing the latest research and science behind screens, social media, and mental health.

We have wrapped up the 9 character traits for this school year and are spending the month discussing Kindness.

What a wonderful year it has been! I have truly enjoyed working with parents and staff to support the needs of all of our students through class lessons, individual check-ins, and providing resources to those who needed extra support.

Have a restful, safe, and happy summer!

Just to remind:

  • There are no excused absences for vacation.
