Monday, Aug. 19th 2013 at 11am-2pm
Water Street Northwest
The Saylor Foundation, known for its free education initiative on Saylor.org, will head offline and into the community to host Saylor Summer Day, a celebration of education and learning for local parents, students and children in the Washington, D.C area. Slated for Monday, August 19, the Saylor Foundation staff has planned activities to promote the use of free (and fun) educational resources to a wider audience. The public is welcome to join us at the Georgetown Waterfront Park for interactive demonstrations in Science, Math and English/Language Arts, giveaways, treats and face painting. The event is free of charge.
Saylor.org has decided to host this event in order to engage with the local community and raise awareness around free educational resources. With over 300 free online courses, Saylor.org offers a range of materials for individuals, students, teachers, and parents to reuse, remix and recycle. Originally focused on higher education, the Foundation has also created K-12 courses aligned to the new Common Core State Standards. Saylor.org also has professional development/training modules available for career readiness needs.
