From Mr. Forster:
We were very excited to welcome students back to Yarbrough Elementary on Wednesday morning. The first few days have gone very smoothly, and we are now into our routines and ready for another great year. Dr. Baugh, Mrs. Brandt and I were able to meet with every homeroom class to welcome our students back, talk about school rules and get them excited about our year. I encouraged each student to set personal school goals for the year. Many students want to make all A’s, some wanted to read more books and others wanted to make new friends. I loved hearing what they wanted to work toward and look forward to helping them all reach their goals.
We also briefly spoke with our students about school safety. As in previous years, we will continue to hold fire drills, severe weather drills and intruder drills so every student knows where to go and what to do in the event of an emergency. While we have fewer students this year than last year (due to the opening of Creekside Elementary) we still have many cars leaving our campus each morning. We are working with local agencies to create a traffic flow pattern that helps move cars from our campus quickly and efficiently.
A special thank you to our wonderful PTO who helped us get our year off to a good start with a delicious teacher luncheon. Our entire staff enjoyed the wraps, salads, fruits and desserts provided by the PTO. Our PTO also helped teachers by providing a case of paper. PTO parents delivered school supplies and sold t-shirts, YES magnets and memberships – all to help benefit our school. We love our YES PTO!!!
I hope you and your student have a great year at Yarbrough Elementary.

Nurse Notes with Nurse Julia
We have many students with food allergies. Always check with your student's teacher before bringing food for celebrations and parties. We ask that all food items be pre-packaged with the ingredient label intact. Please consider food choices that promote good health. To celebrate student birthdays, please consider sending a book or game in their name, or classroom supplies on the teacher’s wish list, in lieu of a food item.
All medications kept at school must have a Prescriber Parent Authorization form (PPA) updated annually by a Prescriber and be delivered to school by an adult.
Medications must be in their original containers and all prescription medications must have a prescription label on the medication or include the box they came in.
ACS Wellness Policy Guidelines and Medication Forms are found on the ACS website, under SERVICES > HEALTH SERVICES.
Please reach me during school hours at 334-887-1978.
Here’s to a healthy and safe school year!

Music Moments with Mrs. Oprandy
There are so many marvelous ways to experience music! In music class this year, students will continue to focus on singing in tune, keeping a steady beat, and expressing themselves creatively in order to find the emotion in music. In addition, fourth and fifth graders will explore music literacy. Music literacy is a focus on reading and writing rhythms and melodies. When students enter the music classroom, they will have the opportunity to experience music through singing, speaking, movement and instrument playing. Information will be coming home soon about playing the recorder and how to join the YES Chorus!
Art Adventures with Mr. Daniel
Welcome to Art with Mr. Daniel! I am Stuart L. Daniel, the Art/Resource Teacher here at YES. This program is designed to encourage students' artistic imaginations by fostering an environment of creativity, confidence, and problem-solving skills that are connected to every area of learning.
I plan on showing them foundational drawing, rendering, painting and sculpting techniques that will help them to have continuous success as a developing artist.
I also serve as the Yearbook Coordinator for YES. Order your 2018-2019 Yarbrough Elementary School Yearbook today.

The Counseling Connection with Mrs. Walsh
What is the role of the school counselor?
Elementary school counselors foster the educational, career and social/emotional development of students throughout their academic careers. Our goal is to support students in reaching their full academic potential and enjoy a positive school experience. We work with students, parents, teachers, and staff members to help students receive the support needed to be successful. As counselors, we meet with students individually, in small groups, and in a whole class format (Guidance Class). We teach students various coping strategies, skills, and methods to handle various challenges. Students, parents, and teachers may request counseling services. All counseling services are brief and solution focused. We also provide referrals as necessary for more intense services at parents’ request. Counselors act as a liaison providing information and resources with school based support systems and outside agencies.
