October 22nd - 26th
Highlights from our week:
Shared Reading - Our class continued practicing sequencing with a short story called Better Move on, Frog! This week also included the reading of a National Geographic book about Bats. Our class will continue to learn about Bats during Guided Reading.
Writing - Our class worked extensively on two picture stories this week. Students were asked to draw two pictures that connected with the beginning and end of an event. Our class has been working hard to create complete sentences that describe an event or sequence of events from their personal lives. We will continue this work next week.
Science - The pumpkin unit was completed this week after our class had the opportunity to cut open a pumpkin and identify the parts inside. Our class created a pumpkin life cycle plate to wrap up the pumpkin investigation. On Friday our class completed a Bat Fact Sheet as a way to celebrate what they learned in Shared Reading throughout the week.
Math: We are continuing to work on addition strategies using dominos. Our class has been practicing counting on from a larger number to find the sum in addition number sentences. This week students created number sentences by using a two number flap card that they constructed. We had many students who were very successful with these addition number sentences! Our class also practiced comparing sums by using the phrases greater than, less than, and equal.
