MMS Eagles Are Tough Competitors
This year, we have expanded our middle school sports program adding girls' volleyball and coed soccer. This afforded more students the opportunity to participate in a sport and to be a part of a team. All of our Fall teams have been competitive. In fact, the Lady Eagles Basketball team has amassed a solid 4-3 record. Our girls' volleyball squad earned their first victory of the season over Aylett with 3-0 performance, and the MMS Soccer team dueled Northumberland to a 2-2 tie in their last home game of the season. Also, we had one of the largest and loudest cheerleading squads among the district. All of our student-athletes have represented our school proudly in the classroom and on the fields & court of competition.
FINAL WEEK OF FALL SPORTS
10/21 - Girls' Basketball v. Northumberland (Away - 4:30 p.m.)
10/22 - Volleyball v. Colonial Beach (Home @ W&L - 4:15 p.m.)
10/23 - Soccer v. Lancaster (Away - 4:30 p.m.)
10/23 - Girls' Basketball v. St. Clare Walker (Away - 4:30 p.m)

Benchmark Testing Set to Start
As we near the end of the first quarter, students have been working hard and will have the chance to show what they know. Teachers have been reviewing and practicing for these tests. Make sure your child is well rested and ready to go. Also, help us to complete testing by setting up appointments after school if possible. Students will be taking their tests within in their blocks.
Here is our benchmark schedule:
Math - 10/28 - 10/29
Reading - 10/30 - 10/31
World History I & Science 8 - 11/1
Civics/Science 7 & US History II/Science 6 - 11/7

8th Grade Marching Band & MMS Spirit Walkers Shine at Fall Festival
On Saturday, October 5th, Montross Middle was well represented. Mr. Bruce Passaretti, band director, assembled one of the few middle school marching bands and showed the county how talented our students were. Composed of eighth grade band students, Mr. Passaretti challenged and prepared them for the parade. The band was supported by Ms. Monica Weldon, 8th grade language arts teacher, who inspired a group of MMS students to show their Eagle pride and march in the parade.
