First UMC Sealy Digest
A look at happenings at First United Methodist Church Sealy
This Sunday, March 22: 5th Week of Lent
We continue our Lenten Sermon Series: Becoming Living Echoes of Jesus Christ. These 40 days of Lent, will teach us to live the way of Jesus, ultimately motivating and equipping us “to go into the world sharing the Gospel.” Becoming “an echo of God's love” is our absolute goal … and we should be committed to getting there … as God enables us on the journey.
Time is running out ... Honor or remember someone on Easter with a beautiful lily in our sanctuary, with the order forms in the pews. Plants are just $10. For more information, see Margaret Warriner or the church office.
All Church Leaders should be present for this Sunday’s Leadership Bible Study. The study meets in the conference room at 11 am.
Cub Scout’s “God & Family” Class meets this Sunday at 1 pm. We are happy to host Cub Scout Pack 443 for a second year, as they delve into the God & Family program.
- Palm Sunday, 10 am (ONE service only): Traditionally marks the beginning of Holy week. Recalling Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem and his journey to the cross.
- Holy Thursday Service of Worship, at 6:30 pm – Remembering Christ’s final acts of love and servant hood and we gather at the table.
Good Friday Prayer Vigil (come and go prayer starting at 6:30 pm) – One of the most solemn Holy Days within the life of the church. On this day, we witness our Lord’s unchanging love for us as He willingly gives His life for our sake. This Good Friday, we’ll observe the ancient tradition of watching over the Lord’s tomb, remembering His sufferings and death for our salvation. We will begin this sacred watch at 6 pm and end at 10 pm, but you are encouraged to carry it forth as you go to our own homes, mindful through the night of Christ’s saving act of grace for us.
- Sunrise Service, Sunday at 7 am – Our very own Pastor Curtis deliver the sermon at this year’s 75th Annual Easter Sunrise Service in the Stephen F. Austin Historical Park. (The park is located next to the Brazos River Bridge on FM 1458 in San Felipe.) Since 1940 an Easter sunrise service has been held at the park, sponsored by our friends at San Felipe UMC. Ministers from San Felipe, Bellville, Pattison, Brookshire and other surrounding areas participate in this celebration. It is for all Christians. ALL are invited to attend this beautiful and moving worship service!
- FUMC Easter Service, Sunday at 10 am – Celebrate the Good News of the empty tomb at FUMC Sealy. Plan now to bring cut flowers to flower our Easter Cross.

Around the Church:
Last weekend’s Rummage Sale was a huge success! The fundraiser brought in more than $2,000. Thanks to all who donated, shopped and especially … those who spent hours and hours pricing and arranging for the sale!
WE STILL NEED HELP buying candy and filling eggs for next weekend’s Eggstravaganza! Can you help us fill eggs Sunday after church? We’re also having an ALL DAY Egg-filling party Wednesday, March 25, starting at 9 am. Please help us if you can. Bring some candy and we’ll provide the eggs and conversation!
This Wednesday, March 25, is our Confirmation 2015 Kick-off! We’re excited about confirmation, a program for students that wish to be confirmed in the United Methodist Church. The program is designed to study the beliefs of the United Methodist Church as well as to dive deep into what it means to be a Christian. The program begins with the kick-off session next week and ends with the Confirmation service in May. It is an incredible opportunity for these students to stand before the congregation and proclaim their faith and their commitment to a life of loving God and following example of Jesus. To love others with all of the grace and mercy we have received from God.
