Message From the Principal
Dear Wheeler Families,
One of our core beliefs at Wheeler School is that if you work hard, make your best effort, you can be the best "Leader of the PACK" you can possibly be. Wheeler Students know all to well that this is reiterated every morning on the announcements by both myself and a 5th grade student.
The letter K in PACK stands for Know that I can. Research on student engagement clearly emphasizes the importance of a student's perception of the idea "Can I do this?". If the student answers yes, I can do this, the student is more likely to be engaged in the learning process.
At Wheeler School, we work to provide our students' feedback that will foster this "Know that I can" belief or what psychologist Carol Dweck refers to as a "growth mindset". Her book, Mindset, describes and defines "growth mindset" as the belief that one's capacity for learning is not fixed, but can be developed over time through effort. Dweck's research shows that a "growth mindset" is a key factor in helping students and adults thrive not only in their daily lives, but also in achieving goals when faced with difficult problems, setbacks, and just plain hard work.
Below is a link that will take you to 5 strategies parents can do at home to promote a growth mindset in their children.

Providing growth oriented feedback to our children is paramount! Together, teachers, parents and administrators are guides in promoting a "growth mindset" and strengthening the message for all students that working hard and making your best effort will result in achievement.
Thanks and sincerely,
Mr. B.
