Super-Readers for the WIN!
From PTA ~
The PTA Read-a-thon has been so much fun and a HUGE success. Together we logged over 87,000 reading minutes and raised over $13,000 for PES.
All of our participants did an amazing job reading and working hard to reach their goals.
We want to recognize our outstanding Read-a-thon SUPERSTARS: Overall Strongest Readers (most minutes logged), Strongest Readers by Grade Level, and Top Fundraising Classes with a special shoutout to the Top Fundraising Students.
The PTA has ordered prizes for all students who participated and they will be distributed before the December break. Thank you to all of our Paloma families and friends for supporting our students and our school!
Winter iReady Diagnostic ~ Happening now!
Please encourage your children to do their very best on the assessment! Students and staff are excited to see the progress our students. The results of the assessment are used to determine each child's learning path in iReady in reading and math.
When you get your child's results, please take a few minutes to praise your child's successes, encourage them to continue working hard, and let them know you are proud of their efforts. All students grow at their own pace, it is the steps forward, the successes they make along the way that makes all the difference!
Thank you!
Toys and Candy at school
We have seen an increase in students bringing toys and candy to school and are asking for your help.
Please remember that toys (pop-its, fidgets, electronic toys, cards, sports equipment, etc) are not allowed at school. We know that pop-its and fidgets especially are very popular right now and that kids want to trade them and play with them, however, they cause a distraction at school. Please have your children keep toys at home. If they would like to trade with a friend and it is ok with you, they may trade them at home, rather than at school. Further, we provide sports equipment for students to use at school and request that they keep their personal baseballs, bouncy balls, etc at home. Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated and supports our focus on teaching and learning.
Additionally, we understand that sweet treats are popular this time of year. We do ask that you limit the amount of sugary treats/candy that your child brings in their lunch, backpack, and/or pockets. A single treat for students to enjoy after they eat their lunch is plenty for one school day. Even better would be to save the sweet treats/candy for at home. Thank you in advance for your help with this.
Please LABEL student items
PLEASE PUT YOUR CHILD'S NAME ON JACKETS, SWEATSHIRTS, AND SWEATERS in addition to lunch boxes and water bottles.
Thank you!
Safety at Arrival and Dismissal
If you are dropping off or picking up students in the school loops, it is important to always be focused on safety.
- Please remember to stay in your car, be alert.
- Please move forward as directed by the school staff.
- Students have been instructed to move forward and look for their rides. Pulling all the way to the front of the line without leaving gaps is the best way to ensure that all students are dismissed in a timely manner. We will make sure that your student finds you as soon as possible.
- Please proceed through the loop in a line. Going around the line and cutting into empty spots is dangerous as we have students entering and exiting cars all throughout the loop as well as students and families who are using the crosswalks.
Birthday Celebrations
At this time, we cannot permit food to be brought in to share with classmates as part of a birthday celebration. We absolutely wish to recognize and celebrate our students' birthdays!
If you would like to send something in to celebrate your child's birthday, please consider non-food items such as bookmarks, pencils, shape erasers, or another non-food item. Please keep in mind that deliveries of balloons or flowers to students, while they are at school, are not permitted as this is very distracting to the learning environment. Special deliveries such as these are best kept for the home. Thank you!
Additionally, we do have a Birthday Book donation program. You can read more about it here:
Masks and Water Bottles
Also, all water fountains are closed at this time due to health and safety concerns. Students have access to faucets to fill their water bottles as needed.
Thank you in advance for your help in sending your children to school with masks and water bottles each day. Thank you!
