2016 Austinville Teachers of the Year
Teacher of the Year
Mrs. Sarah Henderson is completing her twenty-ninth year of teaching. Her teaching experiences began in kindergarten and sixth grade classrooms in the Morgan County School System. She has served as the Guidance Counselor at Austinville for sixteen years. At Austinville, her goal has been to help students become confident leaders.
She and her husband, John have been married for twenty-nine years and have two daughters. Sarah Beth teaches at Oak Park Middle School and is the Varsity Girls Soccer Coach. Katie is pursuing an art degree and is in her second year at Calhoun College.
New Teacher of the Year
Dr. Jeff Gilbreath is ending his second year at Austinville. He loves working with the students at Austinville and looks forward to getting up and coming to work each day. His goal is to spread his love of music throughout the school.
Originally from Mt. Hope, Jeff taught at Georgia Military College, Alabama Southern Community College and Auburn University before returning to this area. His wife, Laurie is a former music teacher and now works in Huntsville at the Child Advocacy Center. His daughter, Kelsey, is finishing work at Calhoun Community College and his son Jordan just graduated from Decatur High and has a scholarship to UAH for the Fall.
Support Staff of the Year
Mrs. Patty Gonzalez has been at Austinville as an ESL Paraprofessional for 12 years. She works with students in kindergarten and first grade to increase English vocabulary and assist them with beginning comprehension. Her goal is to help students become comfortable with their new language and not afraid to practice new words. She also encourages them to share their learning with their families.
Patty has been married to Francisco for twenty-one years. They have two children. Steven is a 2016 graduate of Decatur High School. Emileen will be a freshman at Decatur High in the fall.
