COVID Management
In order to keep all students and staff safe at school, please help us with the following:
- Report all positive cases of COVID-19 to the school nurse by emailing bethblizzard@smsd.org.
- Keep your student home when they are ill and get them tested. If your child has one or
more of the following symptoms (cough, shortness of breath, new loss of taste/smell) or
two or more of the following symptoms (sore throat, fatigue, runny nose, congestion,
headache, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, body aches, chills) you should provide a negative
PCR test or lab confirmed rapid antigen (no home tests accepted) before they return to
school.
- Free testing is available at community locations, find sites at
https://www.coronavirus.kdheks.gov/280/COVID-19-Testing.
- If you need COVID guidance for your child who has symptoms, has tested positive or
has had an exposure, that guidance can be found here:
https://resources.finalsite.net/images/v1642178360/smsdorg/tiwcawcjkvqekd3xf2ji/
COVID19StaffStudentsGuidance1-12-22-B.pdf
- If after reading through that document, you did not find the guidance you need to
determine when your child can return to school, please keep your child home and
contact Nurse Blizzard via email at bethblizzard@smsd.org.

Science Night- Presenters needed on Wednesday, March 30
Hello Bulldog parents!
Science Night is a fun, long-standing tradition at Briarwood. It takes place every other year (minus a skipped year due to COVID) and Wednesday, March 30, 2022 is this year’s event – mark your calendars now!
There will be more information to come about this family-friendly evening event, but in the meantime, we are reaching out to Briarwood parents who have a science-related career or hobby who might like to share their talents with our students and families!
The format for Science Night is meet, greet and inform. It is a busy evening, so individual contact is short – a quick hands-on activity or demonstration works very well.
Please reach out to Melissa Clark melissafisherclark@gmail.com with questions.
**Note, we will be following all SMSD COVID protocol for an indoor event, so masks will be required, and we will likely have 2 one-hour time slots for everyone to attend.

Briarwood Skate Party- Friday, February 25
Look for a flyer soon with more details!

Celebrations and Recognitions
February 1st – Lunar (Chinese) New Year
February 4th – Winter Olympics Begin
Celebrating other traditions:
Cultural celebrations foster respect and open-mindedness for other cultures. Celebrating our differences, as well as our common interests, helps unite and educate us. In honor of the Chinese or Lunar New Year, we have included a link with some historical context and activities and a local FREE activity for all ages.

Olympic Fun:
The Olympics usually occur once every two years, but due to the postponing of the 2020 Olympics we will experience the summer and winter Olympics in back-to-back! The Olympics are a great opportunity to learn about and celebrate other cultures as a family. Beginning with the opening ceremonies on the evening of February 4th you can watch athletes from different countries compete in a variety of winter events for two weeks. Below is a link with some ideas for family fun from a past winter Olympics.
