A note from the Principal
Dear Parents & Caregivers
At St Mary’s, we want our students to graduate as capable, confident and compassionate members of society who go out into the world and lead with their head, their heart and their hands. To achieve this, we need to view each child as more than just a vessel for information, rather a person with unique gifts and talents that can utilise them to help make their world a better place. For us in Catholic schools, and as people of faith, we believe that providing a quality academic program is only one part of the puzzle, and that supporting students in developing their spiritual, social, and emotional competencies is just as important. At the end of this term, your children will receive their reports, and again, whilst academic success is a goal of ours, it is important to look beyond the grade. Attitude to learning, emotional resiliency and social skills are all important aspects that need to be developed in our children and should be celebrated. If you have any queries or concerns, either leading up to or after receiving your child’s report, please don’t hesitate to contact their teacher and make a time to meet with them. Our doors are open once again and we are looking forward to rebuilding the relationship between teachers and parents and working together to support your children.
Playground Update
Recently, we announced that our school has committed to upgrading both the playground on the lower oval and in the early years area. The tender process has begun and a number of playground developers across Western Australia have communicated with the school about the possibility of putting in an application. We will have more news regarding this initiative soon.
P&F Major Fundraiser
Please book Saturday 27th August on your calendar. The P&F are hosting a Winter Wonderland Black Tie Ball as a major fundraiser with proceeds going towards the playground redevelopment. The event promises to be a great night. More information will be sent to parents shortly.
Gifting in July
There are people in our community needing a little extra help this winter. The Parish Pastoral Council of Our Lady’s Assumption Church, Donnybrook are calling for donations of non-perishable items for their Gifting in July initiative. Please support this worthy cause by dropping your donations into the front office at St Mary’s.
COVID-19 Information
Each week we are getting more and more of our students back and are beginning to get back to life as normal, refocusing our energies again on our core business of teaching and learning. As a reminder, please continue to submit any positive test results on to the CEWA Self-Reporting Tool and the WA Health Department RAT register, both of which can be found on our school website.
Year 4 First Holy Communion
Congratulations to Mitchell, Antonio, Charlie, Madison and Leah who made their First Holy Communion last Sunday in the Church. First Holy Communion is an important occasion for us as Catholics, where students, with the support of their parents, acknowledge that they would like to be followers of Christ and members of our Catholic community. A big thank you to Mrs Thomson who prepared our students and coordinated the sacrament.
Book Week
Next term we will celebrate Book Week in Week 6. The theme this year is “Dreaming with Eyes Open.” Please keep this in mind when preparing for the dress up parade.
NAIDOC Week
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about our First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. The theme for this year is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! and challenges us to do so for systemic change for Aboriginal peoples. As a school we will be celebrating NAIDOC week with a liturgy on the first Monday back next term, and with an incursion offered by Koomal Dreaming during Week 4.
Reading Club
A big thank you to Mrs Thomson and other staff members who have offered their time to support students in their continued reading development at the Reader’s Club held each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday between 3:15-3:35pm. To get involved in this opportunity, please contact Mrs Thompson.
Winter Carnival
This year’s Year 4-6 Winter Carnival has been rescheduled to be held this coming Friday 24th June. Our students will be competing in Football, Soccer and Netball. More information has been sent home to parents.
P&F Meeting
Our next P&F Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 2nd August at 9am. Please mark this in your calendar and prepare to support the school.
Jump Rope for Heart
Our Year 3-6 students have been skipping for several weeks now and are preparing to show case their skills at the School Skip Off which is planned for 1:30pm on Wednesday 29th June. If you have not already registered your child, or made a donation, please do so via the Jump Rope for Heart website.

After six years with us here at St Mary’s, our groundsman Bob Jeffreys is leaving us. We wish Bob all the best in his retirement and look forward to seeing him around for visits and morning teas. All the best and safe travels, Bob.
Ella Noordhoek
Last week, Mrs Ella Noordhoek announced that she will be leaving us at the end of Term 2 to fulfil a fulltime Pre-Primary position at Dalyellup Primary. It's been great having Ella on staff, and we wish her all the best for the future. Information on Ella’s replacement will be made shortly.
