Miss Courtney's Class
This week...
On Tuesday, we introduced our tree and leaf unit. We read a book called "The Grand Old Tree" and used paintbrushes and our hands to create a large tree trunk. We talked about some of the animals that live in a tree and sang a song called grey squirrel. The words are "Grey squirrel, grey squirrel, shake your bushy tail. Grey squirrel, grey squirrel , shake your bushy tail. Wrinkle up your funny nose, hold a nut between your toes. Grey squirrel grey squirrel, shake your bushy tail." We shake our tails, wrinkle our noses, and pretend to hold a nut in our fingers. They love this song! I will send a video of us doing it so that you can hear the tune. We also played a great game with Miss Kara our physical therapist. We used beans bags and placed them on the body parts that Miss Kara called out. We tried not to use our hands and we all counted together and tried not to let them fall!
On Wednesday, we re-read our story and took a nature walk. I brought out red, yellow and green trays to sort our leaves on. We loved throwing the leaves in the air and running through the crunchy piles. When we came inside, we sorted the leaves again and identified their colors. We then glued our leaves on the brown trunks that we painted on Monday. The kids were proud of their work!
On Thursday, we had a wonderful "art only" choice time. We had huge chart paper and crayons on the floor for free drawing, flat crayons that we held sideways to make leaf rubbings with at the table, and we also made trees out of paper rolls. The kids cut the paper rolls down on the sides for leaves and colored in the bottom brown for a trunk. The rolls also became people and we chased each other around with them. It became a giggle festival and was a ton of fun! We made smoothies with Miss Becky today since we missed it on Monday, we took turns shaking our frozen apples, scooping blueberries, and putting in strawberries and bananas. It was delicious! During center time we played outside a lot. We took small rakes and used them to make piles on our lawn. We were having so much fun outside so we pulled out bean bags onto the lawn and continued our day by reading stories in the wind. It was peaceful and the kids stayed very engaged in the books that we read. It was a nice day!
On Friday, we had a productive day! We stayed with our art only choice time picks. Some kids colored, some kids did playdough and some kids decided to work on making trees.
We also read a great book by the Pete the Cat author, called Groovy Joe. We also did parachute and played outside with our rakes. We loved Fridays in preschool!
