Respect and Diversity
At LMES, respect is an important piece of the culture of our school. In the course of their day, students have countless opportunities to learn about this broad ideal and how it applies to every part of our building, every person we encounter, and even how to extend it outside of our school and into the world.
This school year we will also be focusing on respect for diversity. Students will be involved in opportunities to learn about what makes them unique and what makes others unique. They will explore differences and similarities within our school and throughout the world.
Here are some of the activities we've been busy with at school, and an idea for how you might continue the conversation at home:
How 5th graders show respect
Students participated in a conversation about the meaning of the word respect and then created paw prints to showcase different ways they can model respect throughout our school.
1st grade learns the word "Unique."
Students listened to the story of Violet, an odd new student in her school. By the end of this charming book, Violet's classmates find that her differences make her a very special friend.
Connections to explore at home
Not Your Typical Dragon is a wonderful story to share with your children. Crispin is different, in a pretty wonderful way ... but will he and his parents come to realize the value of his special skills?
