SCA Parent Newsletter

September 3, 2015

There will be no school Monday, September 7th. The school offices will also be closed.

All students will have their school photos taken Friday, September 11th. Picture order packets will be sent home with students in grades Pre-K through 11 on Tuesday, September 8th.

As we begin the school year, here are a few reminders:

Absences: If your student is going to be absent or tardy, please notify the school by phone call (717-375-2223) or email ( for middle and high school students, and for elementary students). We require a physician’s note for any medical or dental appointment.

Educational Trips: If you are planning to take your student out of school for an educational trip (absence of three or more school days) please be sure to fill out an educational trip form and turn it into the office in advance of the trip. (We ask for at least two weeks notice, if possible.) The form can be found on the school website under forms and documents. Feel free to call the school if you have questions.

Parents and other school visitors: As one of our security measures we ask that all visitors, including parents, check in at the office when they enter the building. Thank you for helping ensure the safety of our students.

We encourage you to fill out and return the Big Three Pledge Card that you received in the mail this week.

Shalom is in the process of updating its website. Our plan is to open the new site which will be compatible with mobile devices by the end of September. One new feature will be a parent portal which will allow parents to more easily access forms and other pertinent information.

Moms in Touch is a prayer team that supports our children, their teachers, and Shalom in prayer. The group meets every Monday that school is in session from 8:30-9:30am in the Learning Commons. Child care is provided for pre-school age children. Come to our first prayer time Monday, September 14th to find out more information. If you can't make it, feel free to join us on any week that you can attend. If you cannot attend the weekly meetings but are interested in being a teacher prayer partner for year, contact Mrs. Kenda Wenger at or call 717-686-9466.

We are in need of a refrigerator for our elementary faculty room. If you or someone you know has a good, used one that you would like to donate, please contact Mr. Shawn Musick at the school.

We want to give you an opportunity to support Shalom financially in the coming year without any additional expense to you. We are selling gift cards (grocerts) for *Giant/Martins, *Sunnyway, Weis and Food Lion. Gift cards are available in $10, $20, $50 and $100 amounts. These cards and certificates are used as cash. You pay no more than face value for the certificates but Shalom receives 5% of all sales.

You may click on the link at the end of this newsletter to access an order form. The form is also available on our website,, under about us, forms and documents. Grocerts may be picked up in the main office, sent home with your child or mailed. Payment must accompany your order. Checks will be deposited Friday of each week. We also offer standing monthly orders. Contact Mr. Jeryl Hoover in the main office for information. Thanks for your support of this program.

*Cards for Giant/Martins and Sunnyway may be used at their respective gas pumps.
