Talley Updates
Outdoor Lunch
Our outdoor lunch plan has been working well. We have been lucky this week with cooler than normal weather. Students are welcome to bring a hat to wear while outdoors. They should also bring a towel or mat to sit on.
Water Bottles
Please make sure that your child is bringing to school a refillable water bottle. We have fill stations on every hallway. When students don’t bring in their own water bottles, we give them a water bottle from the front office. Doing this on a daily basis is unsustainable.
Bus Routes
Routes are created and maintained by the transportation department. To check route eligibility, information and updates, please visit the My Bus Planner website: https://csd.mybusplanner.com/TransportationEligibility
Arrival and Dismissal
There are only right hand turns in and out of the school’s parking lot. We have had a few parents turn left. This is a hazard and creates problems for our buses. I appreciate everyone’s cooperation. Remember to use your turn signal as you approach the parking lot. Turn on the signal as you pass the school’s marquee. Parents of walkers, please space yourselves out on the sidewalk. We have had a large group of parents standing very close together in front of the school. Please help us model social distancing. It will take everyone working together to keep our schools safe.
Lunch/Bus Cards
Although school meals are at “no cost” for this school year, in order for your students to purchase extra items in the cafeteria, you will need to put funds in your student’s account within Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Please visit the district’s website at https://www.csdecatur.net/parentportal for guidance on how to access the parent portal.
School Leadership Team (SLT)
The Talley Street Upper Elementary School Leadership Team (SLT) is an elected committee consisting of Talley Street parents/guardians, staff members, a community member, and a district representative. The purpose of the SLT is to make decisions that support the continuous improvement of the school in accordance with the provisions of the District Charter. This year we will have 3 SLT vacancies. If you are interested in filling one of the vacancies, email a short bio of yourself and why you are interested in serving to bheaton@csdecatur.net. Expressions of interest are due by Friday, August 20th. SLT elections will be held on Thursday, August 26th.

Community Updates
Decatur Education Foundation
Welcome back to school! We are so excited to be back, it’s going to be a great year! DEF works in partnership with City Schools of Decatur to ensure that every student has what they need to learn and thrive. This year, our focus will be largely on remedial needs as the past year of uncertainty, disruption, and online learning has created some learning deficits for many students. For that reason, we are continuing our Virtual Pals tutoring program in which we pair a 2nd-8th grade student with an upper high school student or adult volunteer to help with homework, time management, and motivation. If you would like to sign your student up for the program, you can go here: https://forms.gle/nLrKbwkXyvYjEAJB8 If you would like to help as a volunteer tutor, you can apply here: https://forms.gle/L5hGac9Y7HGTKFZJ7 (High school students can earn volunteer hours!)
