There are a few things coming up in June! Finally! Our hallways have been empty and we have been so sad (except for when Mrs. Rebizant does her announcements, she cheers us all up!). We are excited that students can come to school even if it's in a limited capacity.

June 19th - A Busy Day!

As you will note, there are a few things happening on Friday, June 19th.

1. Home work is due back to the teachers - please make sure all your assignments are done and handed in to your teachers!

2. If you have chrome books with charging cords, textbooks, library books or anything else that belongs to the school at home, we would appreciate if you would drop it off to the school on or before this date.

3. There will be a Grade 8 Celebration in the afternoon, so that staff and students can say "farewell and all the best". If you are in Grade 8 - you won't want to miss this special event! More information regarding the time, location and procedure will be communicated with the Grade 8's closer to the event. Stay tuned!

Reminders for Students in School in June

A quick recap for in school appointments at SMS between June 8 and June 26

> Students need to have an appointment to see their teacher. (Teachers will be in contact with homes to make those appointments.) No walk-up appointments will be allowed.

> Parents must transport their children to these appointments - there is no bus transportation available.

> Students must enter through the main doors (77 Lumber) and also leave through those doors. They will go directly to their classroom and stay in that classroom during their time at school.

> Students will be screened upon entry and sanitize their hands.

> Physical distancing protocols will be followed at all times (inside and outside).

> Students need to bring their own snacks (no sharing) and water (fountains are not available). Students cannot share school supplies.

> Students and staff who show flu-like symptoms are asked not to report to work or school. Symptoms include coughing, sneezing, sore throat, fever, shortness of breath or runny nose.

We want to keep everyone healthy and safe! We look forward to seeing our students and ending the year on a positive note.

If you have any questions, please email or call your child's homeroom teacher.

Grade 7 and 8 Registration Forms

Attention Grade 6 and 7 Students and Parents!

In May a Google Form was sent out by Mrs. Friesen regarding registration for Grade 7 and Grade 8 course choices. If you have not received one, or you have not completed one for your child, please email Mrs. Friesen at hfriesen@hsd.ca, and she will send out another form to you.

If your child will not be returning to our school next year, please call the school to advise, as we are currently in the process of preparing our class lists for next year and we want to ensure that our enrollment information is correct.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Did I Miss Out on Buying a Yearbook?

No! It's not too late!

We still have some yearbooks left, so it is not too late to reserve one! You can purchase one directly from the Friesen's Yearbook Store @ https://ybstore.friesens.com/stores/332651 or you can call the school to make arrangements to buy one through the Parent Portal.

Yearbooks will be delivered to the school around the third week of June. We will be having a yearbook pick up day on Tuesday, June 23rd. Time - to be announced. Yearbooks will also be sold on a first come, first served basis for those books that are not reserved. Cost of the yearbook is $30.00, cash or cheque made payable to Stonybrook Middle School, or you can use credit card if you purchase online through Friesen's or the Parent Portal.

End of Year Report Cards

Sign up for Parent Portal!

Final Report Cards for this year will be available on the Parent Portal only (no paper copies will be mailed out). If you have not yet signed up for your Parent Portal Account, please contact the school and we can send the directions and access codes you will need to set up your account.

There are many advantages to having a Parent Portal Account!

* A great communication tool between home and school

* Secure online access to your student information

--- Make sure school has correct contact information

--- Send attendance notes to school instead of emailing or phoning

--- Make payment on account for school fees, field trips, sports fees, etc.

--- Sign consent forms

--- Easy access to report cards and High School credit information

Keep Collecting!

Over the years, our school has always encouraged students to keep their can tabs and add them to our "stockpile" at school. A local representative for Tabs for Wheelchairs has come regularly to pick up these tabs and we have been proud to have been part of presenting wheelchairs to young people who need specialized equipment.

If you're wondering what to do with all those can tabs you've been collecting for weeks (now that you haven't been able to bring them to school), we've got good news for you!

Trailblazers Life Choices is in Steinbach have now opened their doors for you to drop off your tabs.

  • They are located at B-197 Main St.

  • Times and hours for drop off are Monday - Friday, 9:00 am. - 3:00 p.m.

  • Their procedure for dropping off the tabs will be as follows: Put them in the blue bin outside their front door. If you have your tabs in boxes, please place them beside the blue bin. This will be the safest way of doing contactless drop off. Once they see you get into your car, one of the staff or individuals will bring them into the program.

  • This place will officially open NEXT MONDAY, June 8th

Thanks to everyone who has supported this worthwhile program.
