The Blue Creek Gazette
January 2018
From the Desk of Mr. Joines
Besides the delays, early outs and canceled days for snow/ice, 2018 is off to a great start at Blue Creek! Students and staff both are energized and are focused on student learning and success. Our The Leader in Me efforts are moving along nicely. Students are beginning to utilize 7 Habits language and are using the Habits to help structure their days and interactions with peers and adults alike. The collaboration seen among students and staff is truly awe inspiring.
Blue Creek is interested in restarting our PTO. Please email me at tim.joines@onslow.k12.nc.us if you are interested in assisting in that process.
Everyone at Blue Creek would like to extend a huge thanks to all of our families. We very much appreciate you and everything you do to assist us with your child's/ren's progress! The collaboration between home and school is vital for each student's success.
Please let me know if there is ever anything I can do to assist you and/or your family.
Sincerely,
Tim Joines

PBIS - Hallway Expectations
In January our focus will be hallway behavior. Student expectations are to walk safely, quietly, and respectfully. Please continue to encourage your child to follow our 4 school rules: Be Safe, Be a Team Player, Be Accountable, Be Respectful.
The Leader In Me - Family Connection
Even if you haven't been involved in the past, start now! Four questions to consider:
1. What does the ideal volunteer experience look like to you?
2. What are your strengths and interests?
3. How many hours can you volunteer?
4. Is it better to actually be in the school or take things home to work on?
Consider some suggestions:
• Help in your child’s classroom
• Have goal setting talks with child/teacher
• Mentor or tutor students
• Use weekly data-sharing folders
• Help organize, cater, or work at fundraising activities
• Help to plan and chaperone field trips
• Organize or assist with a specific club or interest group
• Have regular personalized communication with teacher/school
• Sew costumes or build sets for theatrical and musical productions
• Volunteer to speak in the classroom or at a career day
• Supervise or judge experiments at a science fair
• Be at parent training events
• Invite school visits to your home
• Be involved in interactive homework, tips, and tools for home learning
Volunteering not only benefits your children; you also benefit by making the school a more positive place. Through your modeling, relationship building and support, you will be helping in ways that will reap benefits for everyone.
