He was born on December 7, 1972, in Altenmarkt, Austria. He is a former skier who won two Olympic gold medals , 3 World Championships , 4 Austrian Cups and had 54 victories in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup . He was one of the best skiers in the world and one of the ski legends. On October 13, 2009, he announced his retirement from competition after his right knee got injured, and had to be operated.
