Glenealy School Newsletter

Message from Brenda
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students
Many thanks for attending the student led conferences last week. It was great to see your child sharing their learning with you. Thanks for filling in the feedback forms too. Your feedback is important to us.
CIS Community Survey
The school is going through a self study process with the Council of International Schools (CIS) who are an educational accrediting organisation. Glenealy School has been part of this accreditation process for nearly 10 years now.
We value your feedback, so please take some time to fill in the CIS Community Survey which was emailed to you on Monday. The survey will be available until 22 March, 2018.
School Counsellor - We now have a counsellor working with us two days per week. If you would like further information please click here. If you are interested in accessing this service please contact your child’s teacher, Jennine Harding or one of the senior management team.
Farewell (just temporarily!) to Abi Ede - 2E class teacher
Abi had her last day with 2E on Tuesday this week, before taking maternity leave. We wish Abi well and can’t wait to have a cuddle with the new baby when it arrives! Jess Scott, a current staff member, will be taking over 2E from Wednesday. Jess and Abi have been working together for the last week to ensure a smooth handover.
I am very much looking forward to meeting you all and joining the Glenealy School Community. The close-knit community atmosphere at Glenealy is particularly appealing to me and I am keen to make a positive contribution to school life when I arrive.
Originally from Leeds in England, I currently live in Sai Kung with my wife and young son. We are also expecting a baby girl in May. My personal interests include most sports, in particular rugby. I grew up playing rugby league, having trials with both Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos Academies. I then switched allegiance to rugby union when I moved to Hong Kong, representing HKFC before joining the Typhoons in 2009.
Having studied PE at Sheffield Hallam University, I moved to Hong Kong in 2005 to teach and coach at a range of international schools. During this time, I have completed an MA in International Education and have thoroughly enjoyed my experiences of teaching children of a variety of nationalities, cultures and personalities. You will find me to be very approachable so please feel free to say hi or stop for a chat whenever you see me around school.

Kindness Walk
Thanks to the generosity of the Glenealy School Community, twelve Y6 students raised over $3,500 for ImpactHK* with a "Dress Casual" day last Thursday.
The students participated in a "Kindness Walk" around North Point on Tuesday 13th March, where they donated essential supplies to those living in the homeless community and to those working in low-income jobs.
This is a wonderful piece of action by the students and we are sure they will inspire others with their act of kindness.
*ImpactHK is an NGO who help the homeless community of Hong Kong through acts of kindness.
Stay tuned for more amazing action by Y6 later this week...........
