I am so excited to be starting the 2019-2020 school year as the new Special Education Resource teacher at Holtville Middle School. This will be my fourth year teaching Special Education. I taught one year in Georgia. Following that, the military brought my family to Alabama where I have taught the past two years at Prattville High School.
My husband, Andrew, and I have been married for 12 years. We have two children. Nevaeh is a fifth grader at HMS. Drew is in first grade at Holtville Elementary School. We are all three very excited about being a part of this family and community.

Students will hear about opportunities in choir, meet new friends across grade levels, and enjoy some ice cream. Choir sign-ups are ongoing, and the first choir meeting will be Wednesday, September 4th after school until 4pm. Interested students should talk to Mr. Lenker about joining us and singing with the choir this year.
HMS Music Education
This year, HMS is excited to implement a general music program for students as a supplement to their normal studies. Classes are taught by Mr. Lenker and will integrate reading, language, and history skills into a musical lesson. Some topics covered will include patriotic and American song history, discussions on American art forms, including jazz and the blues, and different aspects of world music found in music today. Classes are held on various days in teachers’ classrooms and are taught biweekly.

HMS Band
The HMS Band is up and running for the 2019-2020 school year! Returning 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students have been practicing some new music as they prepare to play at an HMS football game this October. New 5th grade students have been learning about musical symbols, testing out instruments, and playing musical games in class. As of writing, there are 45 new students in band this year, a record increase for HMS!
A very important parent meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 3rd from 6 to 7 pm. All band parents are encouraged to attend. We will be discussing expectations for students, new changes to the music curriculum, planning future events, and going over the calendar for the year.
