Choir Updates
- On Monday, December 16, 2019 about 30 LMHS Concert Choir members took a bus down into Philly to the Kimmel Center to sing at the 2nd Annual "Silent Night Philly Sing-In." This event was created last year by Wissahickon High School Choral Conductor and renowned Composer, John Conahan, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of "Silent Night" being written. Conahan composed his own arrangement of "Silent Night" that hundreds of people came together to perform in the lobby of the grand Kimmel Center in Philadelphia in December of 2018. Because it was such a huge success last year and brought the community together, the Kimmel Center decided to make this an annual event. This year, Conahan added his arrangement of "O Come All Ye Faithful" to the event and over 2,000 singers from the community gathered together under the glass roof of the Kimmel Center in the beautiful lobby on the evening of December 16 to make music together.
- On Thursday, January 16 - Saturday, January 18th we had three sophomore LMHS Concert Choir singers, Francesca Bovasso, Isabella Bovasso and Michael Salamone, represent LMHS at the 2020 PMEA District 11 Chorus Festival held at Springfield Township High School that culminated in an incredibly well done concert that Saturday afternoon. In order to make this ensemble, they had to learn challenging choral repertoire and go to audition for three judges super early the morning after THON on Saturday, November 23, 2019. At the audition, students are asked to sing a selection of the choral repertoire acappella and also sight sing an 8 measure phrase in which they have never seen before. We are EXTREMELY proud of these three students!!
- The choir is THRILLED to announce that sophomore singer, Francesca Bovasso, will be moving onto represent LMHS at the 2020 PMEA Region VI Chorus Festival to be held at North Penn High School from February 27 - February 29 culminating in an 11am concert on 2/29.
- Our 2nd Annual All Choir Night with singers from Pine Rd, Murray Avenue and LMHS will be THIS Thursday, January 30th in the LMHS Auditorium at 7:00pm.
- Save the dates for the 2020 LMHS Drama Club Spring Musical Production of Les Miserables taking place in the LMHS Auditorium on Thursday, March 26, 7pm, Friday March 27, 7pm, & TWO SHOWS on Saturday, March 28 at 1pm and 7pm. School Counseling Department
College / Career Counseling:
The school and college counselors are meeting with juniors for their group college planning seminars. Each junior should arrive home with a folder containing a copy of their unofficial transcript as well as a checklist to follow throughout the spring. Students were given the opportunity to begin their research on majors, professions and colleges with the guidance of the counselors. Key websites reviewed include:
https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/majors-careers
https://student.naviance.com/lmhs
Juniors (and parents) are invited to schedule an individual 30-minute follow up meeting with their school counselor to discuss where they are in the process and to have the opportunity to ask questions in a confidential setting. Prior to scheduling a meeting, students should complete the required survey and Game Plan in Naviance. Meetings may be scheduled through Mrs. Forcina via phone at 215-938-0114 or email at lforcina@lmtsd.org. Please schedule early! The appointment window closes on Friday, February 28, 2020.
Mental Health:
With midterm exams quickly approaching, it may be a good time to check in with your teen about his or her level of stress. Here is one article focused on helping your student build a stress management plan: https://parentandteen.com/managing-stress-coping-with-challenges/
