WE WON A PIZZA PARTY
Thanksgiving Feast is on Friday November 21nd
We are doing our Annual Thanksgiving Feast a little different this year. Each grade is bringing in different items and we will be serving our feast in the Gym, beginning at 11:30 (starting with kindergarten and up), then coming back to our rooms to enjoy our meal together.
2nd Grade will need:
10 people to bring in 4 cans of corn.
11 people to bring in 4 cans of green beans.
Dishes need to be cooked and ready to serve.
You can prepare your dish as you would like. (I love when we bring in traditional items)
Use the link below to sign up.
Give Thanks Day
2nd grade has been asked to bring in (new to slightly used) WINTER WEAR. This is the perfect time to go through closets and purge those things students may have outgrown or items you do not use anymore.
Some suggestions are:
- Blankets
- Coats
- Sweaters
- Hats
- Scarves
- Mittens/Gloves
We will have the items taken to Mrs. Kephart to distribute to those in need.
Christmas Performance
Our performance is scheduled for December 8th in Covington at 6:30.
Prek-5th is performing so the gym will be very full. Please have your child there no later than 6:00 so we may prepared and ready to sing.
The performance attire is Sunday best with Christmas color accents.
Girls: Holiday dresses or dark bottom, white top with Christmas accents
Boys: Dark pants, white collared shirts with (holiday) ties and scarfs.
What's happening this week...
Language Arts- This week's spelling words are are Compound words. They must turn in their pretest with their homework. I am trying to get a sense of what the students know before they take their pretests and study their words as it will help me design lists and lessons for them.
This week we are continuing to discuss verb tense. Point out verbs as you or your child uses the. Ask them if it is something they do in the past, present or future.
Math-- Oh. My. Word. The Rock Starts ROCKED their Addition with regrouping test!!!!! I am so proud of all them. The main problem we had was with the simple addition part of the problem, because they totally rocked the regrouping!
We have started double digit subtraction today. We will not test over this until the week before Christmas Break. We will be doing a lot of practice, practice practice, in this unit. We'll get it though!!!
*Remember to practice math facts every day. I will begin giving a timed test over all 100 facts this week. It is so important that they are fluent in those facts.
Social Studies/Science-- Wow, students really showed how much they learned in the Creek and Cherokee Unit. I am very proud or their work! We began our unit over Matter last week. We will delve deeper into the content by describing the properties of the three states of matter and how matter can change from one state to the other.
