FHS Preparing for 2nd Sem & Hybrid
A note from Mr. Bakke
January 19, 2021
Dear Fife High Community,
As you heard from the Superintendent, the high school is targeting the week of March 1 for our return to campus for Hybrid students. This is exciting news that understandably can be coupled with some anxiety and worry.
As a reminder, when we come back to campus, we will be switching bell schedules for both online students and hybrid students to a six period day schedule, and all students will begin attending classes every other day. We will be doing more communication outlining this schedule change and safety measures in the weeks leading up to March 1.
You were notified via email this past Friday afternoon which cohort your student was assigned. When we bring students and staff back to campus:
Full time Online students attend Family Class on Mondays in Zoom, and attend their online scheduled classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Cohort A - Hybrid students attend Family Class on Mondays in Zoom, and their class schedule on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Cohort B - Hybrid students attend Family Class on Mondays in Zoom and their class schedule on campus on Wednesdays and Fridays.
All Students: On the days students are not attending class in person or online they will be assigned asynchronous activities and assignments that complement the class periods they attend.
We sent out much more detailed information a while back regarding 2nd semester and Hybrid schedules, here again is a link to that information: https://www.smore.com/t9sy4
Preparations to get our class schedule set up for the start of 2nd semester to accommodate online and hybrid programs has been underway for quite some time and continues. It is a very complex and challenging endeavor as we work within extremely tight confines to meet health requirements for the number of students who can be in specific classroom spaces at one time. Due to the complex nature of this undertaking please remember:
As we have stressed throughout, once your student selected their program (online/hybrid) and are assigned to a cohort it is extremely difficult and in most cases changes are not possible. Staffing, course offerings, and facility preparations were made based on that survey.
Another reality of making this happen 2nd semester is most of our students' schedules and teachers will change. Please mentally prepare yourself for this reality. We will be making student schedules available to them the week of January 25th.
Just to echo what Mr. Alfano said, our highest priority with bringing students and staff back to campus is making it as safe a return as possible, but many changes have had to be implemented in order to make this safe return possible.
Since last March we have all been faced with one challenge after another. Thank you so much for all your support, patience, and understanding as we work through this next big transition. This is truly an incredible community.
