Arts Magnet Weekly News
Week 25 for Families and Community February 14-18, 2022
Love is in the air!
Dear Eliot Arts Magnet Families,
With the warmer temperatures and longer days, you can feel spring's imminence. Our students are joyously running, laughing and splashing water on each other to keep cool. Ms. Ellison has begun to plan for "Poppin' Fridays" where we honor students each Friday who are showing leadership or getting to class on time with a popcorn or popsicle party in the quad.
Thanks to Ms. Moore, the ASB and our fabulous parent leaders, our Sweetheart's Dance was a big success! We are looking forward to another dance in the spring and then of course, our first annual FauxCella festival!!
Thank you to all our Eliot Husky parents who support our students and staff everyday!
Monday is Valentine's Day! Parents, please assist by not allowing your student to come to school with candy, stuffed animals and balloons. We will be collecting these items from students to hold in the main office, should they show up at school. Luckily, tomorrow is a shortened day so students have lots of time to enjoy the holiday.
Dollar Store Last week a few Eliot students purchased Airsoft BB guns at the Dollar Store across the street and thought it would be fun to bring them to school. Mr. Maynard and I were able to successfully retrieve the items, counsel the students and assign consequences. I also spoke with the manager of the store and she agreed not to sell them to our students.
There is still time to purchase your Annual Fund Gala tickets!!! You may purchase your tickets at http://HTTP://WEBLINK.DONORPERFECT.COM/ELIOTAFSILENTAUCTION

COVID Updates from PUSD!
NEW COVID PROTOCOLS
STUDENTS who have a POSITIVE test result must ISOLATE (stay in their home or other residence) for a period of at least 10 days from the date symptoms first appeared or the date of the positive test.
They may return to school if:
10 days have passed from the start of symptoms or the date of the positive test
No fever for at least 24 hours, without the use of medication
Other symptoms have improved
Isolation is required when you test positive regardless of vaccination status. This revised exposure management plan poses a lower risk by preventing students who test positive from returning to school too soon when they could potentially still be contagious. Studies estimate 31 percent of those who test positive remain infectious on Day 5.
STUDENTS who have been EXPOSED and are identified as CLOSE CONTACTS are REQUIRED to QUARANTINE if they are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated. A close contact exposure is generally defined as being within 6 feet of an infectious person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period or living within the same household.
Requirements for unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated close contacts:
Must quarantine for at least 5 days
Must test on or after Day 5.
The test must be an FDA-authorized viral COVID-19 test ( PCR or Rapid Antigen). In order to return to school on Day 6, the test must be observed and verified by a medical professional (this can be done at the Primary Clinic). Test results must be negative.
Must monitor for symptoms for 10 days from the date of last exposure.
STUDENT MASKING
Students are now required to wear upgraded masks which at a minimum are well-fitting, non-cloth masks of multiple layers of non-woven material with a nose wire. Cloth masks may be worn over the upgraded mask. (PUSD COVID-19 SAFETY PLAN)
PUSD must provide a medical-grade surgical mask to symptomatic students who are waiting in the designated isolation area prior to leaving campus, if they are wearing a less protective mask.
Again, if your child is a close contact but is fully vaccinated or has recovered from COVID-19 in the last 90 days, they do not need to be quarantined and can remain in school. They are required to monitor for symptoms for 10 days past the date of exposure and test for COVID-19 on or around Day 5 past the date of exposure.
We would also like to remind you that getting vaccinated and boosted when eligible is the best way to slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect yourself and those you love. It allows you to stay in school and keep doing the work you have to do and the things you love to do.
PUSD VACCINATION CLINICS

Mask Mandate Policy
We have a strict mask mandate on both our campuses to keep all students, staff and families safe from infection with COVID-19. We understand the masks can be uncomfortable for students to wear all day long, but they are necessary. We will follow the process below for students who do not/can not wear a mask over their nose, mouth and chin:
- First time, Verbal warning to wear their mask
- Second time, Phone call home
- Third time, Recommendation for PUSD Independent Study for 3 days
Student will be placed on our regular independent study program for 3 days. This program keeps the student enrolled at their present school with work delivered on Canvas. After 3 days the student returns to their home school and the process starts all over. Each time we get to step three, we add an additional day of independent study until we reach the maximum which is 15 days. After that, student will be referred to our district's CIS program for the rest of the school year.
If you have any questions about this policy, please reach out to principal Scheckel.
