Message from Superintendent Cybulla
During the month of October during the ECSD board meetings we reviewed the Strategic Planning Goals that were developed as result of the year long Strategic Planning Process that was completed at the end of the year in 2017.
At the October 25th board meeting many positive messages were delivered about the good things happening at ECSD. The East China Education Foundation presented 15 grants to our teachers. Kristi Muscat and Laci Fisher, the elementary academic interventionists, presented on their work with our teachers and students. Shawn Jasionowski, ECEA president, shared great things that are happening in the classrooms and Michael Walling, ECSD Curriculum Coordinator, presented to the board members the elementary STEAM class, the Accelerate on line platform and middle school PLTW classes of Design & Modeling and Automation & Robotics. The ECSD staff is working hard to meet the needs of all our students.
Thank you to our community for your continued support of our great schools and staff.

Welcome Mrs. Bracken!
Introducing Kelli Bracken, Special Education Teacher
How long have you worked in education and have you had any previous assignments?
I have been working in education since 2008. My first teaching job was at a college in Wuhan, China where I taught English as a second language. After that, I knew that teaching was it for me! Once I returned from China, I started my Master’s Degree in Special Education at Eastern Michigan University. From there, I was hired at Advanced Technology Academy in East Dearborn, spent a few years at Fitzgerald High School in South Warren, and then moved on to Royal Oak High School where I taught for four years.
What do you enjoy most about your position?
The people at Marine City High School and Middle School are the BEST! My students are bright, creative, and have such great personalities! I just love working with them. The entire staff at the Marine City Campus is just awesome! They have been so supportive and welcoming to me!
Any personal information you would like to share about yourself? (
I’ve been married since 2016 and have three dogs and a cat at home. I love stand-up paddle boarding, rollerblading, travelling, dining out and spending time with my husband.
We are so happy you joined the ECSD team!

ECSD Welcomes new Programs!
The East China School District is excited to announce new program offerings to our students!
New for the 2021-22 school year is the elementary (Y5-5th grade) STEAM itinerant class. STEAM stands for Science Technology Engineering Arts & Mathematics and works to integrate these topics together in a very hands-on and engaging manner. Our STEAM teaching staff have worked diligently to help to develop this exciting opportunity for our students. Students are exposed to a variety of topics that align with the State of Michigan Content Standards for Science, as well as the Next Generation Science Standards.
For the 2021-22 school year and beyond, the East China School District is excited to be adding two Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses to both middle schools. Design & Modeling and Automation & Robotics are currently being taught by Annemarie McLeod (MCMS) and Kate Volpe (SCMS). Both of these outstanding educators attended two full weeks of training this past summer to prepare for teaching these courses to our students.
In the Design & Modeling course students work on discovering the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. The culminating project in the course is to design a therapeutic toy for a child who has cerebral palsy.
In the Automation & Robotics course students learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Throughout the course they use the VEX Robotics platform to design, build, and program real-world objects such as traffic lights, toll booths, and robotic arms.
Please Welcome our Academic Interventionists!
