6th graders had fun starting off the week with a typing racing competition. They also completed a mini-unit formatting Word documents. They will continue their work using Microsoft Word next week. This week they learned to indent, change font style/size, inserting images, text alignment, and special effects such as BOLD, Italics, & underlining. Their typing words per minute goal is now 22 wpm with 90% accuracy next week. While some students have already met grade level goals, all students should practice to improve their skills. Students were instructed if they did not meet their minimum goal that they should practice at home. They may practice anytime at typingtraining.com. Students can even use their Chromebooks to practice anywhere they have an Internet connection. They all have their login information. If you have any issues logging on at home, please email me. You can monitor your child's progress at home and school by going to the reports menu after they have logged into Typing Training. Many computer students email to ask login information or for me to assign specific assignments on typingtraining.com. I welcome these emails and respond as soon as possible.
All computer students finished their week with Hour of Code!

Artfully yours!
Mr Chapman
FMS Art teacher
*Special Note: Mr. Chapman has been at home ill for the past few weeks. We look forward to him returning to FMS and his art classroom as soon as he is 100% healthy again. In the mean time we are fortunate to have Mrs. Nancy Foote subbing and making lesson plans for all art classes 6th-8th grades. Mrs. Foote taught art classes at FMS for 31 years before she recently retired. We greatly appreciate her stepping back into the classroom and FMS during this time. We also send positive thoughts for Mr. Chapman's swift recovery.

6th Grade Band: We have still been splitting out into sectionals for 6th grade band. The rest of the band who are not in sectionals have been working on pages 13-14 out of the band book. Students have also been asked to play individually at the end of each class lately to spot check for students who may need some extra help. Students should be practicing at home on their own every week. Next week we will be focusing on pages 19-21. We will be working on baskets for the basket raffle for the parade of bands on March 14, an email was sent home to students and parents. Please start bringing in items for your baskets, or monetary donations so items for the baskets can be purchased.

The books will stay at school, but we have started a new warm up. The students can take their warm ups home and work on it at home. Students have received new sheet music for their upcoming concert and we are excited to see what the kids do. HORNET SINGERS:
Hornet Singers...though they be but few, they be mighty!
The students are anxious for Friday to be here! They have definitely put in a lot of hard work in and out of the classroom. Their two selections as a large ensemble are pictured below: "In Terra Pax" & "Everlasting Melody". These pieces have challenged and stretched these students and I have seen (& heard) so much growth through this work. I hope you are able to come see their performances - choir & solos - at Central Methodist University's Music Festival Friday, March 3rd.
Speaking of Festival, emails have been sent home as well as hard copies of packet information. There is a PERMISSION SLIP that will need to be signed and turned in by WEDNESDAY, March 1st. This includes important information for the festival as well as the schedule of events. Please email with any questions.
Don't forget, the "Evening of the Arts" Concert is on Tuesday, March 7th at 7pm in the FMS Gym. This allows the students to showcase their work in their community after a successful time at CMU Music Festival. The choir will sing as a whole and some solos will be featured.
The choir handbook and schedule is online for your perusal anytime. (www.fulton58.org)
HARMONY HORNETS:
We are so proud of the hard work these students give every Tuesday! Our amazing group is made up of a mixture of 6th-8th grade (7th/8th band or guitar members) and has great energy and interest in making great music. Rehearsals are every Tuesday from 3:20 - 4:15 in the FMS choir room (G07).
We are having so much fun with our songs this semester and can't wait for our concert all about Spirituals!
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments, feel free to contact me at llehman@fulton58.org.
HORNET PRIDE:
We will be singing at Central Methodist University's music festival on Friday, March 3rd. I'm looking forward to learning this music, and sharing it with a larger audience! Parents and singers should have received an email with details of our travels to and from the competition. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
PLEASE REMEMBER that choir members MUST be in uniform at ALL of our performances this year. You may purchase the required polo shirt by bring $13 ($15 for XL) to Dr. Moebes. You will receive a receipt for your payment.
ARTS ALIVE:
We are nearing end of the quarter already! Students have been working diligently to show what they know about tempo, dynamics, and articulation. We have been working through these concepts by writing, doing activities, playing games, and by beginning our work on Battle of the Bands! Students have been placed in "bands." Together with their band, students will compose a short song for percussion ensemble. We will use recyclable materials for instruments. Songs must contain: at least 3 layers of rhythms happening simulateously, be at least 1 minute long, contain 1 tempo change, and at least 1 dynamic change. We will showcase these songs next week!
