The Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living structure on the planet, and it is also rich and diverse. It stretches 2300 kilometres, the natural icon is so big, it can be seen from outer space!! While it is mostly known for its large maze of colourful reefs, its architecture also provides a home for a massive number of plants and animals.
Facts
*Covers 344,400 kilometres squared in area.
*It's the world's largest coral reef ecosystem.
*Has 3,000 coral reefs, 600 continental islands, 300 coral cays and about 150 inshore mangrove islands.
*Stretches south from the northern tip of Queensland in north - eastern Australia to just the north of Bundaberg.
*Humans have been affecting the reef for a long time.
*The Great Barrier Reef was created in 1975 through Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act.
Human Impact
Us humans have impacted not only the Great Barrier Reef but also the world by littering and being careless about our nature. So that means that the rubbish goes into the sea and also into The Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is also being destroyed by over-fishing and Pollution
