A Message from Assistant Principal, Mrs. Savage
Hello Pontiac families!
Our 2nd graders will take the CogAT/IA (Cognitive Abilities Test and Iowa Assessment) over the next two weeks Oct. 15-17 and Oct. 22-23. The CogAT/IA is a state-mandated assessment for ALL students in Second Grade. The purpose of the assessment is to identify students for the gifted and talented programs.
If you have a child in second grade, please ensure that they are on time to school each day of testing. Please try to avoid making appointments on those dates, as students who miss a day of testing will need to make it up at a later date. Also encourage your 2nd grader to get a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast. Studies show that elementary aged students require 10-12 hours of sleep nightly (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2016).
Thank you to those of you who were able to join us for Cici’s night! This is a wonderful PTO sponsored event and we always enjoy seeing students and their families outside of school. Please join us for our next PTO family night at Skateland on November 14th from 6pm-8pm.
School Safety - A reminder from our Superintendent, Dr. Baron Davis
School Safety is important and it takes all of us!
Parents we are asking for your help too. Please take this opportunity to speak to your child about the importance of school safety. Help us encourage students to not joke about school threats or make statements in haste. In Richland Two, safety is no joke and no one should ever joke around about causing harm at our schools and to our students, employees, and visitors. Thank you for helping your students understand the importance of school safety and why suggested threats are taken very serious by school administration.
We appreciate your involvement in your child's safety and the education of our students!

Your child can participate in Read with the Gamecocks! We are asking you to help your child keep a log of their reading.
The log will track a classroom goal set by our child's teacher - either the amount of time spent reading, pages read, or books read. Just be consistent on every entry which you are entering.
We are asking you to keep a log for two week and then submit it to us. The time frame is from 10/13-10/27. We are asking for the completed logs back by Friday 11/1. Your child's teacher has copies of these logs.
Upon completion your student will have earn two tickets to the USC men's basketball game and two tickets to the USC women's basketball game. This allows for the student and one parent to attend. The student will also win a free voucher to EdVenture.
Ready, set, READ!

Pontiac Parents,
October is dress up time and we thought we would have some fun by decorating FAKE pumpkins as book characters. For the month of October we want your decorated pumpkins to decorate our library. Make sure you use a fake pumpkin because real pumpkins will rot before the end of the month! Also, make sure to put the student's name on the pumpkin so we can return them at the end of the month. Thank you for helping decorate our school media center!
